On a lesser mod, I refer the CNC upgrade below:

I found after using this pitch connector, the bolt that I CAed on to the bearing has a lot of play in its housing - 1 pitch degree!

So to stop this accessive 'play', I installed two bearings, and CA the outside of the bearing with nylon string. A 5 minute easy mod!:

Now no more play!

Well its been a while.
Not that I haven't been doing anything - the problem is (was) I got too cocky with the mods. I was so sure that I could mod everything, and it would turn out great.
Well, here's one that didn't. And it has led to the painful destruction of my one and only frame.

Here goes :
I got these CNC Shogun V2 servo and motor mount from XMSELLER (of eBay). Jeff was kind enough to sell them to me separate from the kit ( - I seriously don't think anyone else gives this kind of servise).

Well hey ho!! I was happy as hell. Another cool upgrade.

This is how they mounted, after half a saturday's work of hacking off and flattening the front portion of the frame.

Everything at the front had to go, including the stock frame plastic spacers that I had originally used as guides for my earlier motor mount.

There was no other way. The plastic spacers were in the way of the mounts and, well, being over confident that I could align the motor to the main gear perfectly, I filed them completely off:

The motor mount screw holes was then drilled onto the frame (yellow arrow) with no other referance other than me eye-balling the motor pinion being straight with the main gear.

What a huge mistake. Upon spool up - (and mind you I did this after I had set up the heli completely - another half a day's work!) - I could see tiny dust starting to fly from the motor area. Upon inspection, I could see the motor was eating away at my brand new main gear!
Oh horror!
So I had to dismantle the whole heli, and re-do the whole process.
I re-sealed the holes I drilled, made new ones - and eye balled the alignment again.

I did this 4 times, each time drilling new holes, or making them larger.

ALL FAILED

By late saturday night, I surrendered and said my farewells to my frame.

Anyway, getting over the dissapointment was quick (but not easy).
The above parts came on Wednesday.
Two weeks earlier, I had pastered Jeff to sell me the other parts for the Shogun V2 frame, and finally he relanted. He sold me these parts well below the complete set price, and they arrived two days after the above (Friday).

So that Saturday night, when all seemed dark and gloomy, I realized that it was time to put the Walkera behind me, and move on to the Shogun frame.

It is therefore, with a heavy heart, I boot myself out of here, and place a thread at some obscure and extremely unpopular place at helifreak.com on the mods of the Shogun frame and one Walkera part:

http://www.helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?p=186180#186180

I wish you all happy flying and good luck - it has been a blast.

I just wanted to say thank you for all your posts about your Walkera RC heli. It is sad to see the thread end but as I have recently started with this heli I look forward to future visits to this post and with amazement I am very grateful to your contribution.

some very nice mods and info thanks

but with all the align parts you have baught and zoom parts why not just purchase one of them to start ?

i was going down similar route but im no where near as good as you with mods i was mainly buying upgrade parts for my walkera 36

it got to stage where i realised how much i had actualy spent on this bird so i decided to stop there and purchased a trex now i just use walkera as a test model and my main helli other than my eco 8,s is the trex

lol when i think back to all the money i have spent on micro hellis x3 aerohawwks x1 esky and i pais more for these than my walkera and my trex but trex did not come with anything other than speed control and motor

if you have any info for upgrades on a eco 8 that be cool

Its because the head block damper housing is so deep, its designed to take 4 'o' rings!!

Could you be so kind as to measure those mixing levers for me, from the centerline of the mounting screw to the centerline of the outer ball. Been thinking that these aluminum parts would make nice replacements for the stock plastic mixing arms on the 22E if they are the right length.

Thanks.

WOW. Some serious mods there with impressive skills. Hows the GY401 working for ya? I was thinking going that route. Do you know any good servos to go with that for the tail?
