Over the weekend, I flew quite a bit, and re-checked my links / rods set up. Found a lot of play with the walkera links - even though they are relatively new. Decided to change most of the head links to Align ball and links:

Some filing and sanding of the ball joints were required as the Align balls were much larger than stock. However, it was worth it as there is now minimal 'play' of the links (most noticible for pitch and eileron links).

Well.. I've come nearly to the end of this thread. I mean, there's only so much you can add on or take off right?
My last 'battle' with this bird is weight. Flying at 780 grams (still lighter than some T-rexs ), felt a bit hefty to my. So I tragetted to bring the weight down to 650 grams - a drop of 17 % in weight.
Stock #36 comes claims its ready to fly weight is 680 grams, including batteries, ect.
So my set up, with all the blings, is overweight by 100 grams!

To make the birds lighter, I went recall my avian anatomy days and remembered pneumatic bones - or hollowed bones:

Therefore, I hollowed my frame as much as possible :

Here (front):

Here (main bearing mounting):

And here (frame bottoms):

I removed the tail drive bearing mounting, since I don't use them anymore (and did more drilling work ):

Quite a bit of drilling, but I lost 15 grams here. Total final frame weight, including the 2 main bearings = 90 grams.

I also hollowed the tail drive pully, which was solid alluminum. That part was heavy!
Here's the final result:

I didn't want to drill too much holes here, as it may effect the pully's curvature / structure.
Total pully weight lost = 8 grams.

My canopy was a 'heavy' part, at 43grams (paint work, CA, fybreglass, epoxy, paint, etc.). My drill got busy:

Final weight = 32 grams. I lost 11 grams!!

My hollowed out the stabalizer fin was reduced to 4 grams. But I still wanted some 'stabalization effect' from the rotor wash down, so I decided to cover the top with epoxy and fibre glass. This also added some structural strength to the fin, with minimal weight addition.

Hollowed out fin, covered with epoxy and fibre:

This is the final product, filed and sanded to shape and painted my fav colour, Tamiya Italian Red:

The bottom is not painted (to save 0.1 grams ):

I repeated the process for the tail fin - filed away the carbon fibre 'struts' to minimum - but still keeping the structural strength. I lopped off the top section, which didn't do anything but add weight.

Cable ties are also additional unnecessary weight:

I rearranged the position of the RX so that the servo wires could course through the air frame, using existing structures to keep the wires in place. In the end, I only needed one cable tie, and one Align valcro to hold both the ESC and two front servo wires - originally, i used 7 ties.

By the same principle, my antena wire originally used 2 cable ties, now none:

Wraped antena wire around frame:

Through fin brace:

And back via tail fin support:
