Steve Campbell -> Extra 330S kit... (6/8/2006 2:05:35 PM)

As I ponder my next model, the less and less I want to have just another cookie-cutter ARF aerobat. By this, I mean the same trim scheme as a thousand other ones. For several reasons, I'm limited to a 30% model; and there is a distinct lack of actual kits for this size model.

The Aero-Tech Extra 330S is the most intersting one that my limited research has turned up. The web site info is a bit sparse, so I would appreciate any insight from those who have built and flown this one.

From what I have been able to gather, this airplane has a basic built-up box (formers, stringers, & planks) fuselage, with foam turtle deck, etc., and foam wings that one must sheet. Correct?

Are the tail surfaces foam or built-up? Airfoiled?

I will be using a BME 50 with a canister muffler. Is the fuselage designed for a canister installation?

Answers to these questions, and any other observations, would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

You will read good and bad as with any manufacturer. The smaller Extra Kit will not do well with a BME55 simply due to its weight. Balancing will be a challange and I believe you will end up adding weight on the nose. I would put min a 3W 60 or the EVO 80 has proved to be a powerhouse. I will help with any questions.

Best regards

John

I would be using a BME FIFTY; not the super-light 55. And a can...

As with the size issue, I'm locked in to this engine, since I have it already.

So, what's involved in modifying the kit for a single canister? And am I correct on the design/construction parameters noted in my first post?

Hello,

You really don't have to mdify anything. The laser cut holes are in the formers already. You need only to close it off. Let me know if I can help further.
