I did some assembly last night. The tank mounting took me all of 15 minutes. (well I did also have to wait for the epoxy to set) I did the hanging type as shown in the photo on page #54 of the big thread. I had a Sulivan 24oz. in the shop so I used it (I think the stock tank is the same height). I have room for foam and about 1mm clearance over the wing tube.

There are a lot of hindges!
Wayne helped me when I called the office last night. But I need more help.

Questions-
(this is my first gasser so some of these might seem obvious to you)

It looks like, with 3" standoffs, the prop will be about 1.25" gap in front of the cowling (seems like alot) with only 1/4" overlap on the fuse.

1. Is this about right ?
2. How much should the cowling overlap the fuse?
3. Cut back cowling for LE of wing?
4. Has anyone used the 2.5" standoffs?
5. Will I have trouble ballancing w/ da50 if I do the 2.5" ?
6. Do most people remove the return spring an a DA 50?
7. The DA manual wants 1" behind the carb- with 3" standoffs there is about 3/4"- Any worries?
8. Is it OK to use 2-56 rods for the throtle and choke?
9. I'm putting the servos just inside the fuse.(I think) Has anyone mounted the servos to the back of the fire wall? It looks do-able and the pushrods would only be about 1" long.
10. TBM sent me some BIG I.D. fuel tubing. Is this needed with DA50 ? The standard size tubing will fit the brass out of the tank but this big stuff will not.

Thanks, I'll be back with more Questions. Scott B

It looks like, with 3" standoffs, the prop will be about 1.25" gap in front of the cowling (seems like alot) with only 1/4" overlap on the fuse.

1. Is this about right ? Yes, 3" is right.
2. How much should the cowling overlap the fuse? Do the 15mm like manual says and you should be fine.
3. Cut back cowling for LE of wing? I'm sorry, I didn't understand the question.
4. Has anyone used the 2.5" standoffs? If you use 2.5" you will have some balance issue with DA50.5. Will I have trouble ballancing w/ da50 if I do the 2.5" ? Yes.
6. Do most people remove the return spring an a DA 50? NO. Leave it there but use a rod instead of cable.
7. The DA manual wants 1" behind the carb- with 3" standoffs there is about 3/4"- Any worries? No worries at all. I have never had a single problem with same set up.
8. Is it OK to use 2-56 rods for the throtle and choke? I wouldn't use a servo for choke but as far as throttle goes, Make sure there is no binding, then you should be fine.
9. I'm putting the servos just inside the fuse.(I think) Has anyone mounted the servos to the back of the fire wall? It looks do-able and the pushrods would only be about 1" long.
Do it inside the fuse like manual shows. It's easy to do and less exposure to possible heat and fuel.
10. TBM sent me some BIG I.D. fuel tubing. Is this needed with DA50 ? The standard size tubing will fit the brass out of the tank but this big stuff will not. Use standard fuel tubing for DA50, big ones like 1/8" diameter is for DA100.

Make sure you make enough opening in the cowl for good airflow.

if I may chime in....

Yaks are different than other airplanes... (I like to think better..but I won't go there ).. there is quite a bit more space between the cowl and the prop than other planes....
ie: an Extra will have 1/8" gap from the cowl to the back of the spinner..or whatever... the yak will have a MUCH larger distance... this is for proper aerodynamic flow over the airframe..

as for wing cutout... I'll take a stab... if you mean Do you need to cut any of the cowl to fit further back...the answer is no...the back of the cowl fits just about right against the LE of wing.. and no there isn't much overlap of the cowl to the fuse... but it is enough

exeter,

you are right. Because of round shape cowl of Yaks you need around 1" clearance but 3" stand offs will put the engine at about 1.25" which in this case the extra distance would help the balance issue with DA50.

Thank you,
Reza

Here's a pic of the real thing that shows quite a big gap between prop and cowl.

Cheers
