The century is a cheap toy. The sails are useless and the jib geometry is horrible. I purchased on from overseas so it was too expensive to return it. It leaked like a sieve and barely sailed in good wind.
Go for the Victoria and you'll be much happier.

As mentioned, the Century 750 is a nice looking boat, but needs a lot of work to be a decent sailor (sails, mast and booms, hatch etc.), so you have to get it really cheap to get your money's worth.
The servo's are standard sized and the sailservo will struggle in anything above light conditions to pull the sails in.

But she looks good!

Regards, Jan.

Hi martno1fan,

I'm not familiar with the windconditions at Blackpool, but the Luna Rossa by Bussi, is a lightweather model in the designed size.
Scaling it down would reduce the usable windconditions even more, unless you make the keel longer.

1M is the minimum in my opinion.

There's a Dutch guy (Johan K), who has made a VOR mould in 1M size, maybe he can make you a hull in glass or carbon.

Regards, Jan.

hi when you say 1m do you mean the hull length?,the keel seems pretty long im thinking of making a solid lead bulb for the keel at the scaled down size the keel is 11 inches long from the bottom of the hull to the base of the bulb.how long would you suggest ? i make it?.im not looking for a ready made hull ive decided im deffinately building my own and glassing it.thanks for your advice its much appreciated.i like the look of the boat but id like her to sail well in medium wind what can i do to acheive this?thanks .

Hi amca,

If you have some experience with boats, it's possible to fix the boat so it won't leak and sail properly.

If you don't have that experience, you're better off returning the boat and get something better for your money.

Regards, Jan.

hi Jan i noticed this thread pop back up and decided to let you know i did build the luna rosa scaled down to 34 " long and i left the keel the same length so the added length to the smaller boat made her very stable in even quite heavy weather.i changed the sails from the plan as they were for very light wind conditions.the boat sails very well and is quite fast too.i also made a few changes to the hull at the transome and made a hatch on the deck which im going to make water tight after a misshap when she ran aground and went on her side in strong wind and filled with water that covered my radio gear oops!!.

The keelfin looks gigantic indeed!

Good to hear you have no stability issues.

I can see you might run aground every once and a while, I have the same 'problem' with my Voyager and she has 36 cm draught (14 inches).

Regards, Jan.

I have recently bought a century 750 and I am doing some work on it, Wondering what I need to improve and how to improve it, My one came with instructions that are not very usefull, I would like some more info or even better, some instructions that someone has made or edited.

If anyone has a century 750 that they have improved, please post pics and how you improved it.

G'day,
I bought a Century 750 recently on ebay (AU$150) knowing it was probably a toy. First thing was to replace jib sail with a new one that fits. The jib supplied didn't fit the boat. Made sail myself from florist's cellophane and some Double Sided carpet tape. Corner strengtheners for ties.
Next had to fix plastic sleeve which connect to rudder servo (JUNK!).
To waterproof hatch I used plasticine along egdes. Works perfect. Not a drop of water inside.
To stop boat falling over in slightest wind I added 2 "snapper" sinkers to lead bulb. Now doesn't keel over. Used 50lb fishing line and Epoxy Glue.
Rerigged totally and used super glue on chain plates and stays.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Just thinking about other posts re leaking.... instructions do say to seal keel to hull with sealant. I used SikaFlex liberally. Maybe why my boat is dry.
Also chucked annoying snap connectors replaced with decent ones from my fishing tackle bag.
All up took 4 hrs to assemble and a week to make sailwothy with all mods.

Now for a "toy" the boat sails well and has given me hours of fun. Compared to my other 1m boats it's tiny but is easy to fit in the car .

Larry L.

Larrykin, I did the same with my triumph 800 with regards to sealing around the keel and I only get a minute amount of water in it also. My hatch is sealed with electrical tape at the moment and works fine.

We got two Century 750 lately, and with a few mods' they are nice boats to sail and have fun especially for the money they cost.
Mine is totally dry -sealed the keel with silicon and got a roofing screw to hold the hatch down -worked well.
we had to add around 300g to the back of the bolb ,(I split to two and shaped a 12oz "snapper" sinker) ,now she got a nice shape and can handle good wind without heeling to much.
Had to change the mast (snapped ) so fitted it with carbon fiber with aluminum tube in the top 250mm so it could bend a bit, also re rigged with heaver duty stuff & new snap connectors.
Like larrykin said the "plastic sleeve which connect to rudder servo (JUNK!)." so drilled it through and put a pin in it ,not perfect but no problems so far.
Still got the original jib but moved it to front and raised it a bit.it is working like on a real yacht -from the front stay with a Vang to keep it in shape.
Next jobs will be to cut new sails and make new chain plates from aluminum. Also got 5 cell battery (6v) so I am thinking of moving the switch to the base of the mast so will not need to open hatch in between runs.
To sum it up it did sail OK from the box but with a few mods (that is the all idea of an hobby) that cost less then $20 she is a good boat that sailed great in a lake and in the open sea.My mate done different mods but still got a nice boat to sail.I just bought a Triumph 800 (sister boat to the Century 750) to keep on my big boat because it got the hatch on a raised cabin I thought it will handle bigger waves out in the islands.I will have to do all the above mods to the Triumph 800 as well.

One thing to look out for on the Triumph is where the keel fits into the bulb. The slot in the bulb on mine was off centred.

Got the Triumph 800 today.Got side by side with the Century 750 ,it is the same but diffrent. This one came with better (?) radio and it is more RTR.
I think I will take my time to do most of the above mods and more before she'll see the water. Will have to check The slot in the bulb .Did you added weight or length to the keel?
One day I will get one of those little hydrofoil boats (only problem it cost 15 times what I paid for the Triumph before postage to Australia) http://www.microsail.com/multihull.html
