Hi Joe;

I've been in the hobby a lifetime, and buying all of the model mags over the years since 1957, have seen them come and go. A Friend gave me a years' subscription to RC Report, which is OK but mostly forgetable, [I am not nenewing my sub], as is Flying RC. Since most of the others are gone, I still stick with my old favourite magazine, namely FLYING MODELS, and have 50+ years worth of issues in my extensive archives, and it is the best by far. Check it out and compare it with the others, I think you will agree.

Just one old timer's opinion, and one who loves this hobby dearly, best regards from sunny and warm Phoenix,

Joe Nagy.

Another vote for RC Reports. What loud shirt is Dick going to wear next?

I find them all worth buying; I get RC Report, Model Aviation, Model Airplane News, Fly RC, Backyard Flyer and Flying Models. Of all RC Report is by far the best with all the others having good and not-so-good content. I find something interesting in all of them however. My favorite of all time "Model Builder" is unfortunately now extinct. Another good bit of reading for those into electrics is "The Ampeer" which is available on line . Just Google Ampeer for address.

It's just as well that R/C report don't accept subscriptions outside continental USA and Canada.
I did buy a number of issues for reading on transatlantic flights, but have kept none.
IMHO it is a very forgetable magazine that I don't mind not subscribing to.

I will stick with Flying Models, presently my only U.S. subscription.

If you want reviews that say anything they look at is the next best thing to have in the hobby and lots of glossy pictures and ads, then stay away from RC Report, you will be wasting your money.

I read a lot of complaints about "glossy, in focus and excellently composed pictures" in Fly RC. I know all contributers and the editorial staff for Fly RC pride themselves in having some of the best photos in the business. YEs, its true - some of us actually LIKE to look at decent photographs. Hard to believe...

In defense of all magazines, and one who has been a subscriber/reader of Flying Models, Model Builder, the AMA Mag, RCM, MAN, Model Helicopter WOrld, RC Jet Intl, and of course Fly RC and more - I also appreciate something that each magazine has (had) to offer. There is no "best" and definitely none that can possibly cover ALL aspects of the hobby and please each and every modeler.

I do know that some of the proponents of RC Report that claim their reviews are the only "real" and "truthfull" reviews are just not true. Many reviews in Fly RC are also very truthful, and as a contributer I can attest to that, believe me or not.

I have read some glowing and 100% positive reviews in RC Report. DOes that make those particular reviews unbelievable? I didnt think so. SOme products in this hobby are excellent and will get excellent and positive reviews. I guess thats hard to believe as well...

All the magazines have something to offer to some in the hobby. Obviously if they did not, then they would not be in business. None will please everyone.

For the record, I think Model Builder was my all time favourite modeling magazine. The technical content, coverage of engines, helis, new and upcoming stuff like jets as well as old-timers/SAM as wlel as rubber FF and more - was a great mix of all aspects of the hobby.

But, if everyone thought that way they would probably still be around, no?

I no longer subscribe to all the magazines I used to, but I remember not all share the same opinions as I do and I would never bash another magazine just becasue it didnt suit my needs.

AJC

I don't know about all the other mags, but I have sent emails to Gordon Banks, Dick Pettit, Ed Morman and Brian Winch and gotten a response from each, every time. It's like dealing with friends and family. RC Flying is my only interest and RC Reports is dedicated only to RC flying--all airplanes. No helis, free flight, indoor flight, control line, speed, boats or cars. It's what I like.

My only complaint about R/C Report (if you can call it that), is that they will mention some part during the build and/or assembly, and then most of the time, there are only photos of the finished model, and nothing to reference what they were talking about.

RC Report, hands down, close second would be Flying Models. The rest are becoming catalogs IMHO.

I would have to say that RC Report is a great magazine. It is more inline with the diehard modeller who is interested in detailed honest reports. With that being said I like other magazines as well. I miss RC Modeller and the older MAN. MAN and Fly RC seem to be as others have stated, monthly catalogs. For as much as people complaine about it I enjoy Model Aviation. It gives a cross section of the hobby that no other magazine can match. Just my 2 cents,

Eric

You mean that there are reviewers out there that will actually publish something negative about what they are reviewing? I have been back in the hobby for about 18 months and have not seen a magazine article that said something to the effect "stay far away from this thing". I'll have to check out this magazine.

I must be lucky then, because Dick Pittit is one of my flying buddies and his "associate test pilot" is my bud also.

Really though LY-RC, (not a typo) is just an AD BOOK. Sometimes when you are reading an article you will lose your place moving from one paragragh to the other, because of clutter.

Now, RC Report on the other hand is a great mag. I read it from Cover to Co
