What would you guys suggest in the diffs for a small indoor track? There's plenty of traction. I was thinking 5-7-2.

Hey guys well its bein 6 months that ive ran my MBX5T PROSPEC at my local track and i gotta say this thing has bein awsome in the little over 6 months ive ran my mugen ive only broken one part and that was the wing mount about 3 weeks ago ive ran my car every week since i got it once a week for 4 or 5 ours at a time with out stopping and its bein great i found myself with 7 -15 -3 diff oils to be my favorite diff oil set up and ive stuck with them this whole time i havent posted in this thread since i got the car since i really didnt need any help but since i completely stripped down my car for the first time since then i thought id share my insite, i had torn the diffs down every 2 or 3 runs at the track but to completely tear down the car peice by peice to clean the whole car i havent done plus i was in need of a few parts the diff outdrive cups are completely wasted, the top arms have play in them same as the bottom, and the rear arms have a cruve in them so all that im gonig to replace it i already ordered everything, also i ordered the CF shock towers and brake rotors as a added bonus ive cleaned most of the car ,cleaned out the diffs, and compltely rebuilt the CVDS to put freash thread lock and grease ill post a vew picks as the progress continues

and i gotta say in the 6 months ive bein running ive had NO DRIVE TRAIN issues what so ever take a look at my ring gear it looks like the day it was first made the other one looks exactly the same

PS i also ordered the KING HEADS rear tower in plate in 3 degrees i had the plastic one but the king heads one looks so good

I was checking out the pic of your ring gear. Looks brand new. Just curious as to whether you had the diff shims installed this whole time. PLMK Thanks.

yea it was dailed in i ran ur set up rember i asked u everything u had put into it i actualyl left it the same way i got it, i loved it but the only problem was the clean up after wards i like keeping my stuff in tact clean all the time and because of that i only drove it at the offroad track 5 or 6 times, i threw alot of money into it everything is carbon fiber PLUS i converted it to the muggy suspetion ill post pics tomorrow

No, the rear end doesn't swing. It's really not a loose truggy. Mine seems to be planted very well. But yes, the on power push seems to be the only issue I have on handling. Other than that, I absolutely love my 5T. And I'm sure that the push issue is just my tuning inexperience. That's what I'm trying to find out now. How to lessen the on power push. I'll try a heavier center diff and see what happens. But what else will change with a heavier center diff? I don't wanna get everything all out of whack.

i rarely mess with my diff oils when going from track to track, but i do adjust my caster and rear toe.

if you are running on a small indoor track with tons of traction, i would run either the 2.0 to 2.25 rear toe block, 1mm spacer in front on your upper arms, if you need even more you can shorten your wheel base.

tire selection is also big, see what the faster peeps are running. running 7-10-2 diff oils. also check your ride height.

its trial and error and im still learning myself, but dont be afraid to educate yourself on what can effect what on your kit. a manual you might want to download that explains allot of setup changes is the Xray manual, it provides some detail on what does what.

the Mugen truggy steers on a dime when set up correctly thats for sure! i have tried other drivers suggestions and setups and honestly i still went back to what i personally felt comfterable with. you might find a setup that fits you better.

and thats all that matters u got it right not he money, i tryed useing other peoples set ups and it jsut didnt feel right (local guys) they i whent with my own and it made a huge diffrenceim very happy where im at right now and it funny becuase i got a friend with a prospec too and his set up is compltely diffrent yet we can pull off almost the same lap times and be very compatative with one another, yet we switched controlers ones he drove mine i drove his and we both where all over the wall it all comes down to how u drive

I have to add something......... Mugen MBX5T doesn't start handling well until it develops some slop in the front end......I hate how it drives with new plastic......... These trucks are soo tight that they need to time to loosen up and break in....If a part only has a little bit of slop your best to leave it, that slop is part of the package !!!

I just picked up a 5T prospec. What a beautiful kit. When I install the diff shims, the pinion & ring mesh is a little snug. Without them it seems a little on the loose side. Did your mesh feel loose w/o the shims? Just wondering if the fit is slightly different from kit to kit since the diff cases are mass produced. I've heard about stripping ring gears because of the backlash not being set properly. I'm trying to get an idea of what other 5T owners are doing so as not to strip the gears myself. Ive gotten a couple of different takes on this so far. One thing that everybody agrees on is lubrication. Thanks for help.

this isnt like the previous truggys to where shimming your diffs were crucial or else....slap that **** together break it in, and then you can add a thin shim to tighten it up a bit, i have ran my kit in both configurations and after close to 20 gallons of run time on the very same drivetrain, zero issues there my friend...The Mugen is an extremely durable kit, fit and finish is pristine! good luck with your build,

Jesse

I must say the same. Just build the thing. Instead of going with other peoples set ups, just try how the truck feels first. Then make adjustments. As for durability. This thing is top notch. I've done more with my prospec than i've ever done with my highly upgraded revo. I think you're going to enjoy your build and you will learn how things work and when it comes to clean up, you'll see how fast it is to take it apart and put it back together again. I'm truly happy with my mugen. I'm waiting for this rumored mbx6. So happy with the Mugen i'll own another. I might even go with kyosho as well. So happy with the japanese makes.

Hey thanks for the info. This is my 1st high end truggy kit and tend to be a little over cautious when I'm dealing w/something new. I've only built on-road touring before. Best truck I owned before this was a hopped up Revo also. So far I'm very satisfied w/the kit. Very simple layout. Everthing is going together like butta. I'll let you guys know how I make out.

P.S.-Hey GNX5T. I've been through your town a few times. I go up to the Bruce in the summer for vaca.
