Status: offline 		Changed the bearings on my SA125 for a few days ago as the stock ones had a bit radial endplay when moving prop.tips back and forward. Now this engine is turning a APC 16x6 @8500rpm great , same as OS120III with pump both running on 10% nitro and 20% oil castor/syntetic blend.

I realize you are only using 10%, but has your RPMs on the APC 16x6 improved any?

Status: offline 		Think I gained about 200rpm after the bearings where changed. I say "think" just because my engines also turn more rpm sumer time which is now. The rpm change can be as great as +200-300rpm in hot wheather and thinner air compared to winter time and below 0-degree celsius. I also use a dubro 45-degree exhaust deflector that keeps the airplane clean but probably cost me 100-200rpm or so.

9000 rpm peak

Update:
I have a little more mileage on the engine now and using the same fuel and prop this engine is now happily operating at 9000 rpm vs that being the peak previously.
So far it is a really nice addition to the collection.

Seems like lots of us are getting similar readings. Motor is fairly new, maybe one gallon. Always has run perfect although with lots of mid-range smoke. I'll mess with the idle needle a bit next time out. Thanks for the tip.

All I have is the MA 16x6 prop so I can't answer your question directly.
Since the 14x10 is about the same prop load in the static state as the 16x6 and you are using 5% nitro 8350 sounds about right to me.
I can easily see that prop hitting 9k if the nitro was bumped to 15%.

I just got a saito 125 and tried it today. I was getting around 8,700 (rich) with an apc 15x8. Fuel is omega 15%. I tired MA 14x10 and got around 9000 on the ground. My needle settings are high end- 2 turns out from closed. low end- half turn from stock setting.

  I just got my 1.25 off the test bench yesterday. It's pretty well broken in. I documented my peak rpm and idle using a Saito plug and Wildcat 10% Nitro / 20% Oil and also with Cool Power 15% Nitro.  Oddly enough the extra nitro content of the Cool Power did not give much increase in RPM. Here's what I got:

10% Wildcat         :      MA 15-8  -   8600 peak rpm / 1900 rpm idle
                                       Evo 16-6 -  8600 peak  / 2100 rpm idle
                                       MA  16-8 -   7900 peak  / 1950 rpm idle

15% Cool Power :      MA  15-8 -   8800 peak rpm / 1900 idle
                                       Evo 16-6 -  8500 peak rpm / 2000 idle
                                       MA  16-8 -  7900 peak rpm / 1850 idle


Please note that for whatever reason the peak speed using the 15% and Evolution 16-6 was 100 rpm lower than with the 10%.

I flew my saito 125 again today and I got the same acp 15-8 rpms (8,700-8900) as I posted. Anyway, I have yet to understand why the Evo 16-6 was 100 rpm lower with the 15% cool power. What plane is it on?

I have tried the MA 14-10 too , and the rpm were about 9,000-9,100 peak but it did not pull as well as the apc 15-8 for my hangar 9 p-51. Top end was not noticeably faster so I switched back to apc 15-8 which gave it better take off 'feel'.

The rpm values I posted were taken from a test stand. I have this engine installed in a Seagul 540 Edge which is my first plane of this type. It's very nimble and reasonably priced. I pulled the engine out to test it because I wasn't happy with the RPM's I was seeing in the plane. Especially compared to other postings. To date I seem to get the best verticle performance with the 15-8 and 16-8.

Mike,
  Sorry but I don't have provisions to measure engine temps. However I haven't noticed anything from a visual or performance standpoint that would make me think it's getting too hot. I sure has a sweet idle with that prop. I just recorded idle rpm's that I thought seemed reliable. I could actually get the speed down to about 1700 but didn't know if it would stay that low. I think I'll stay with 10% nitro as it is cheaper and performs nearly as well.

The 16-8 sounds good if it could turn around 7,900 rpm as you posted. I'm just a little curious of mike's question regarding the temp of the 16-8. It might make my p-51 fly faster, but I don't know if the saito 125 could take it for a long time. I would stick to the apc 15-8 as it gives me the mid to higher 8k rpm.... could fly almost full speed for about 8 mins before landing.

Status: offline 		I'm planning a trip to the field this PM. I will run the 15-8 and the 16-8 and touch the prop nuts / crankshaft (I'm running spinnerless so no adapter) immediately after landing and see if there is any noticible difference in temperature. Will post info. ASAP.

Status: offline 		Ok, I just got back from the field. After flying the 16-8 for 2 flights or about 10 min. total at 1/2 or better throttle the thrust washer was warm to the touch but I could hold my finger directly on it indefinately. The threaded crankshaft end and nuts were almost cool. If anything the engine was warmer after running the 15-8. Probably due to the higher RPM.

  I haven't tried the 15 - 10 yet. If I do I'll post the results. I do think the 16-8 is a servicable prop and it did seem to give my Edge some extra straight line speed. Might be good on a fighter!

thanks. I would post some rpms on that prop (15-10 apc) if I ever get the chance too. I will try the 16-8 tomorrow. and see if my p-51 improves top end speed.

The APC 15 X 8 runs less RPM than a APC 16 X 6 on a 125

A 15 X 10 or 16 X 8 is too much prop for a 125

I have tried a mejzlik 16-8 earlier and the rpm is only about 8,100 ( motor seems to be running hotter because of the load). It doesn't seem to make my p-51 faster. (maybe because is was too windy here in the east coast today). I think I like the apc 15-8 at around 8,700 - 8,900 because of the thrust and speed that it gives. My other option is an apc 14-10 with around 9k rpm , but the pull at take off is noticeably less and the top end is only a little faster. (We can't have it all I guess)
