Hitec,

I've got several old, old Hitec 5945's from probably 7-8 years ago that were still NIB that I've got installed in a large 37.5% Yak on the wings and some brand new 5955's that are going on the elevators of the same plane. Questions.

1) A long time ago, there was a service bulletin out about Hitec Digitals needing a specific reset with the Hitec Programmer with Futaba receivers or else it could lead to some crashes... Was this due to the DeadBand Width being automatically set to 1 by the factory? I can't remember the details and just want to make sure everything is setup properly. Another work around if memory serves me right was to set the ATV's under 120 or so with Futaba Rx's, but of course that isn't great when trying to maximize your resolution.... I've got the latest version of the Progammer software now (just sent back a few months ago from Hitec Service) and I reset the 5945 servo and it came back with a DB Width of 1 while the 5955's come back with a DB Width of 2--is that what I'm supposed to run? Will running a DB Width of 1 with Futaba Rx's cause any problems?

2) Same question for the 5955's--it comes back with a DB Width of 2--is that what it is supposed to be with a Futaba Rx?

3) I've set all ATV's up at 130 on a Futaba transmitter trying to maximize servo resolution if I can, then programmed in the end points needed to get the throws I want. Will setting the ATV up at 130 or higher cause a problem and it may have done in the past?

4) I didn't reset all of the 5945's before starting the programming, is that going to cause a problem? Are there specific values I need to ensure are set with Futaba Rx's? Was it DB Width or something else that caused some issues many, many years ago.

Finally, thanks for your help figuring out if I had the latest 5955's--they work with a Y connector and your assistance sending in my programmer several months back for the latest update. I haven't been flying much for several years and just want to make sure everything is good to go before putting up my two 37.5% Yaks in the air and just can't remember all of the details from the past.

Thanks,

Gerry Davis, Jr.

Here's the info:

Important Information Regarding Digital Servos

While Hitec strives to deliver high quality products that work universally with a wide variety of other manufacturers equipment we occasional run across a compatibility issue with products other than our own.

In light of this it has come to the attention of Hitec, that our digital servo product manufactured prior to October 2001 may act erratically when used with a non Hitec computer radio where the user has programmed the ATV settings beyond 125%.

As a result of this finding Hitec would like to extend an offer to all owners of our digital servos built prior to October 2001. If your servo has the following identification labels on it, they will qualify for this free reprogramming service.

Hitec strongly recommends that all digital servos with the date codes listed below be reprogrammed with the latest software regardless of application or intended use.

The affected servos are labeled as"Modified" with the dates listed below:
APR2001
MAY2001
JUNE2001
JULY2001
AUG2001
You can return your servos to the Hitec service department for reprograming with the latest software version, or you can upgrade the servo software yourself, using the RESET function of the Hitec HFP-10 Digital Servo Programmer with software version, 1.03 or higher. This will "update" your servo and should fix any known conflict with the non-Hitec equipment.

Additionally any HFP-10 programmers that contain a software version earlier than version 1.03 can be upgraded free of charge by by returning it to our service department in Poway, California.

Mike,

Do you remember what the root cause of the issue was? Just want to make sure if it was DB Width set to 1, then I need to manually set it to 2 now with the 1.04 software. Just curious, why does the 5945 default to a DB Width of 1 while the 5955 defaults to a 2? It just surprised me as I was checking? Is that still true on new servos that are purchased today?

Thanks,

Gerry

Are you realizing the variable dB parameters after resetting both the 5945 and 5955? I never noticed this previously myself...

Something to ponder is the original v1.03 servos utilize a different "chip" than the v1.04 units. The software is essentially the same; the chip is what makes them different. There is no marked advantage to v1.04 verses v1.03 software. v1.04 firmware was implemented to be backwards compatible with early revision servos.
