i was going to get a new helicopter but i wanted to get a simulator to just to help me. i'd like it to stay around $100 or so but i wanted to make sure it had different styles of helis like big ones smaller ones co-axial and other stuff i want it to have some planes to.

If you're going to get a simulator, don't limit yourself to a "Budget". Get the one with the features you want.

FMS is very very good, and it's free. Many on this forum used FMS to train their thumbs to control squirelly little Walkera 4's and micro CPs.

But if your looking for something significantly better, then your possibly going to have to spend something significant.

I'd recommend that you consider looking at trying out FMS and when you find you can't grow anymore, see what's around that meets your needs. By then you'll be in a better position to make your own opinion.

And general concensus is that you don't really need a simulator for a co-axial. Most seem to be able to learn them in about 15 minutes. They have a reputation as very stable indoor models.

where do i find the fms simulator you are talking about. so you are saying that there wouldn't really be any point in getting a co-axial and just go right to a cp or what. also i was looking at the realflight g3 simulator but its kind of expensive. is it really worth that much.

This is an option if you're going to get a Blade CP. It uses the controller that comes with the Blade CP.

You pretty much have 3 main options; the free one ( don't know how the controller ties in), this one (nice, but no gloss; the physics seem good) or the Real Flight product which is the best but costs about 3 times more.

...if you get this one, look on ebay, there were some new out there for 44 direct from the manufacturer last month.

oops has good advice. FMS until you're done with ff, then upgrade for more accurate 3d practice. it'll save $$$ for parts along the way. when you're ready for G3-Reflex-etc..., you'll be crashing much less and will have extra $$$ and a good reason to pay for a nicer sim. fms comes with helis that fly anywhere from docile to 3d (i'm using a free addon bladecp model that works well). imho, starting out with g3 will not save you any more $$$ in parts than starting with fms.

you don't have a tx yet, so you'll have to either spend some $$ to get a tx controller to use with the sim, or get a heli first and use it's tx for the sim. if i was you, assuming you have little experience flying anything rc, i'd get a blade cx first (or similar), rig up the tx with fms, then when i'm comfy with fms, take the cx up for a first flight.

here's my earlier post with all the info needed to get any eflight/esky tx working with fms for free:

Clear View! They have helicopters, co axial and planes! The Effects are great and customizable. I got everything I needed to operate it for only $80. Click here to see their homepage!

I use my Blade CP's stock transmitter (you must supply your own transmitter). To use that, I bought a $45 USB cable from Mile High Wings. To get Clear View you go to their website and click Download. Clear View starts in demo mode. This allows you to make sure it will start on your computer. Mine wouldn't at first but then I updated my video card and I got the latest version of Java. Once you know it will always start when you open it, you activate it for $30. Then, you can start flying!

Fell free to ask more questions. I had lots of problems when I got Clear View but then turned into easy fixes. You can also get more models and landscapes to choose from.

what problems did you have with it? i just want to know so i can fix them if they come up. how do you get more models and landscapes? will a blade cx transmitter work or not. is there a certain # of channels it has to be. if it doesn't then i can just buy the blade cp radio and get that usb link you showed me. when i get it i'll tell yo how it works but that might not be for 2 or so weeks.

1) The number of channels doesn't matter.

2) It looks like you may have to get a different radio. There are more sites that sell interfaces so keep trying to find one that's compatible with your transmitter.

3) You get more models and landscapes by going to this website and clicking on the names above the photos. You can also go to Clear View. Sceneries. Models.

4) My first problem was: I got the demo and it wouldn't start. It kept flashing Windows Dos. Fix: I updated my video card. If you have a NVidia video card, disable the Antialiasing.
Second problem: It wasn't fully opening and the demo flights they had on there was all "choppy". Fix: Update Java.
Last problem: The transmitter was all messed up. Fix: Keep calibrating it until it works. It will work.

5) Take your time with installing it, ask questions.

6) Tell me how it works!

so should i buy a blade cp controller cause if i have too it's fine with me. update i have $100 . why is the usb cable so much? is there a time limit to how long you can fly in the air?

edit: is there any usb cable that will work with the blade cx controller cause that would help a lot but if it doesn't work as well then i'll go ahead and get the blade cp controller.

Good news! I found you a USB interface that will work with your transmitter! Click here to view it! It's $45, and don't ask me why it cost so much. I think it has something to do with the black box that is between the USB plug and the transmitter plug on the cable. I know that that's what unscrambles the signal your transmitter sends. On that topic, I recommend you remove the crystal on your transmitter (very easy to do with a flat head screw driver). You just pop it back in when your done and it really saves your batteries.

I don't quite know what you mean:
quote:

is there a time limit to how long you can fly in the air?

When you download this simulator, its on your computer. Then, when you active it, you can fly at will for as long as you want because that copy is now yours.
