Yeah.. was thinking about it.. might just do that when I am tired of the crazy brushless Lunchbox.. :P

Need to swap the gear back to the stock higher ratio one, then put the Neo in it to see what it can do..

The tires will be trashed in 1 pack, no doubt..

This was probably one of the reasons (other than the high speed gear set) that the motor went super hot last night..

Looks like a stone got caught inside of the deep dish rear wheel.. check out the damage it did to the wheel.. (surprised at how strong the car is.. it was going without slowing down with the stone grinding the rim?!?!)

Anyway, heatsink on the motor is general goodness anyway, so it is not like it is effort wasted...

Will still put a fan on it.. the kit should come in a few days.. !

Stock tires = no good...

This is what the front tires look like after 3 runs.. (it used to have 3 groves...)

Yeah, now it looks like a slick... LOL!! I guess it is time to shop for new tires!

It is kind of cool to see the clear body mounted and you can see the inboard suspension system..

As you can see, there's plenty of room behind the battery / next to the motor to mount the fan that I wanted.. just need to fab up a bracket to hold the fan.. and let the fan below into / through the heatsink..

Also dialed in some toe-in on the back.. factory Tamiya driver uses 2 degree toe in.. I don't have a gauge, but I figure that's close enough.. (esp. I don't have turnbuckles on it, so I can only make one full turn adjustment..)

Hmm... fan will go in that space... and blow into the heatsink at an angle...

Man those tires wore fast. Are there any other tires you can get that have a harder compound than the stock tires?

I will get some Tamiya reinforced Type B (harder compound) tires soon......

Will also add a Novak mega capacitor to the ESC (9200uF) to enhanced the performance and lower the ESC temp, although it never gets hot.. as the motor is a very tame RS540 Sport Tune only..

I might put some cheap 13T motor in it just for fun..... then the capacitor would help..

Lunchboxer, I noticed the alum. motor mount has it's fin side touching the motor can. Is it reversible? (So the solid side is touching the can.)If it is thats the way to mount it. the solid side touching the can will draw more heat away from the motor than the finned side ever could. (more surface aria in contact with the can.)

Great point, but no, it is NOT reversible... !! So a heatsink is a good idea.. and a fan!!

Lunchboxer, I wasn't suggesting that you eleminate the rest of the cooling devices, just add to the cooling by turning around the mount if it was possible. But as you said it is not.

Understood.. I didn't mean that you suggested to get rid of the heatsink!

It is not an ideal setup, i.e., using a 27T sport tune motor (27T = torque) and pull the optional high speed gearset.. as you are asking a lot from the motor, and it generates heat and shorten the runtime, so I wasn't sure why Tamiya offers this high speed gearset (I thought I'd try it out, it was like $8).. but I guess it is a "cheap" way of getting a pretty decent top speed out of the kit without going into mod motors..

If I put in a higher power motor in it, I'd change back to the stock spur/pinion combination, which is actually more geared for a 13 to 19T motor.. (that's what an article on Tamiya USA's website said..) Interesting...
