I believe the transmitter is loosely based on the JR8103. The heli looks like a Raptor clone with the flybar arrangement being over the main rotors.

I admit the price is appealing but looking at Walkera's long list of problems, I would stay as far away from that as possible

Hi dere533,

Remember, not all of us requires a Heli out of the box to fly. I for one realy like the fiddling and upgrading to my heli's. I would actually be disappointed if the heli is just perfect and there is nothing for me to do, but then again that may be just me I am really excited about htis new model, but the price does not seem very low to me.

Regards

Nic

its a shame walkera has a crappy reputation. I would/ have, bought there products. now I would only get the airframes.

the electronics, Hmmmmm I would let them go by

I think there airframes are real good and nice looking too, but you got to tinker with them, to make em Flightworthy, as with any heli frame.

I don't think I would trust a nitro, crammed with Walkera Electronics.

How much is this 50 anyway? ......... can't find the price anywhere.

I have checked out the fairly timid walkera video (basic flying at high alltitude with a few inversions) I believe the price works out to be between us$700 to $800 around the Aud$1,000. This seems like a very good price for a complete ready to fly gas heli. and of coarse the electronics can always be upgraded.

A nitro heli can kill. Seriously. Don't get it.
You can bling out and abuse a small electric heli. But a 50 size heli that can whack your head off?? Seriously, nitro wankera - not now, not ever!

Nitro wouldn't chop your head off. A micro electric is just as dangerous as a nitro bird is, if not more so. The blades travel at a much higher speed and have a much thinner profile on small helicopters. They may not pack as much inertia in terms of physical mass, but neither does a nail if you just throw it. Fire it from a nail gun though and see how far it penetrates..

You need to be careful with ANY helicopter, regardless of size. Remember that the blades on your small helicopter have a tip speed over 200 mph, and they're very thin, meaning it's easy for the blades to cause damage. Let your helicopter catch you in the throat, or in the side of the head, and you can kiss your buttcheeks goodbye.

All the responses to this heli seem to be slightly negative or to anything manufactured by WALKERA. has anyone had any experience with their new (wk1001) remote? I have seen it given a good wrap elsewhere in this forum. As for the nitro engine jamed in a walkera I believe based on my own experience and other feedback that the actual airframe on these Walkera heli's is extremely well manufactured and it is only the electronics side of things that has let theses heli's down in the past. I myself have an old walkera 35 and must admit it has been a very reliable heli and survived a few crashes relativly unscathed. I found it to be a great training platform and while I am willing to admit it flies nowhere near as well as my new TRex I am glad I have it and the practice with it that now gives me the confidence to fly my Trex with a lot less chance of crashing. (never say never) yes it was slow to respond to tail comands and very limited when it comes to 3d, but it has all the necessary things you need in a heli to get a better understanding of how they work and how to fly them. Best of all the parts are readily available and relatively inexpensive

with a chopper you are committed to flying , until you bring it down and shut the motor off , you cant just hit reset !!
i feel that the walkera gas chopper may be ok , but you wont have to fly it long to wear slop into the cheep plastic parts , if you put that bird into the air and you get a glitch , you may take a car out , a person out , or your self out , !!!

flying gas birds are not toys but " heavy injury" could occur from being silly ,

if you have to spend your money on a walkera gas bird , get a QUALITY RADIO , RECEIVER to fly with that way you wont go to heaven for getting a glitch when you hover next to your self..

i would personlaly get a raptor 30 ( WITH AN OS 39 HELI ENGINE !), and a nice jr or, futaba or , hitech , heli radio and a good gyro and learn to fly a chopper that flys well , and will last you a while , my mates raptors are over 7 yrs old , and they still fly most weekends ,

i am hanging out for the trex 600 , a 50 sized electric that will fly like a raptor with good parts backup and a clean running chopper that will do more that you will ever want ,

i cant honestly tell you to get that walkera bird , it just dosent seem to be worth it ..especially not the radio that comes with it , i wouldnt trust it on a rc car let alone a heli ..

the range is pitifull with walkera products and i could see you loosing range with that cheep walkera radio , that spells disaster..

Go for a Raptor if you want a nitro helicopter (Walkera product is low quality, nitro helicopter is powerful and it will be very danger of the quality is low).

Of course anything that moves at 2500 RPM CAN CAUSE INJURY. Good safety habits should be practiced at all time!
The issue here is Walkera Nitro - Where no amount of good safety habits can save you when that heli falls on your head - all due to a WANKERA electronic failure.

You might also want to consider that a raptor 30 would (on average) cost you about the same thing. The only thing you may not get with $800 is the transmitter, but everything else you could get (and good quality items, at that).

For about $1000 USD you could have a decent raptor setup I reckon. So you don't save much by buying a cheap cloned copy of a good helicopter.
