Del,

Looks like they came out really nice - matches Glenn's 3-view really well, as well as the photos.

Nice work!!

Geez Del, I went out and started my Sopwith up (G64) for the first time today. I was soo excited about it and then I came in here and read your posts. You really know how to make a guy feel inferior!

Great job, I really am impressed with your build. You have inspired at least half of the work I have done on my Tripe. I will definatly have it ready to fly this week, lets see if I can keep it in one piece long enough to meet up with you in August. I leave on June 5 and return on Aug11 so there is a good chance that it will still be in one piece by then )

Mat........Last fall when we did the maiden it weighed 33lbs. on the bathroom scale. I've since added the dummy engine (about 1 lb.) and a few other small scale features. So I guessing it's around the 35lb. mark. Flies great.
The dummy engine is homemade. A friend and I made molds from parts from a working 1/3 scale engine and poured parts from two part resin.
There are now people working on improving the parts and hopefully an engine kit will be available this summer.

Joe Marrone.........Tried to answer your email but it came back undeliverable. So will answer here.
To drill the music wire axle, (where it attaches to the center of the box spar), I took it in to my work (I work in a machine shop) where we had carbide drills.
They may be avaiable at hardware stores, but not sure.
Good luck on the build.

I was so enthralled with this thread i've ordered the kit from GTM.

Thanks to the tracking no. supplied by GTM I knew it was despatched, when it left the United States, when it arrived in the UK, and when it cleared customs. Which was fortunate because I never heard anything from the British Post office even 6 days after the usps told me it cleared customs!

Anyhow found out where it was, paid the duty, and collected a heavy box.

I already fly a BUSA 1/3 Sopwith Pup so the DR1 will make a nice playmate for it and I love triplanes. I'm just finishing my first build a BUSA fokker eindecker 90 (a very easy build for first timers like me) I also got the BUSA 1/4 triplane kit, basically as practice build prior to the 1/3 scale DR1, thats got a Zenoah 62 combined with a Mick Reeves reduction gear waiting for it. My pup has a zenoah 38 and the practical scale reduction gear that lets it spin a 32" prop and it flies beautifuly scale and sounds lovely, a spot on combination. I'm hoping the GTM triplane with reduction gear will also be a winning combination.

Looking in the GTM box and drooling over the plans, well, i'm starting to twitch. Why not go straight on to big Bertha?

Yes the DVI is nice, I also like the look of the Hanriot, but the triplane appeals to me. But which way will the exchange rate go in a month ?

Hmmm, I know what you mean about the exchange rate, but my modelling budget comes from my euro account.
