After I drilled all the holes, I took it back apart to do a little more sanding to smooth out the "turning" marks in the alum. I first used an orbital sander with 150 grit paper, then went over it again with 250 grit. After that I wet sanded it by hand with the 250 grit. It came out pretty smooth, but I think I'll go back over it with 320 grit wet sanding. Probably don't need to but will anyway. Once I sand it again I'll reassemble using the brass brads, bending them over and lightly tapping them down. You can then clip off some of the excess if you like, then use some epoxie and go over the back side to secure all the "rivets".
