Okay guys,

Like the rest of you, I have been busy plugging away at getting my edge ready for flight. I went by my LHS and picked up a shiny new YS 91FZ today and when I got home and was trial fitting the wings, I noticed a small problem. This is my first plane with plug in wings and saw that one of my wings has about a three cm gap between it and the fuselage closer to the trailing edge. Three cm does not sound like alot, but I tell you I can see right through the gap to the ground. I can also clearly see the bamboo alignment peg in the gap. The leading edge part of the wing (roughly the first 75 percent of it) butts up against the fuselage just fine. It is the last 25 percent that has the gap and it is driving me nuts! If I push the wings toghether really hard, I can close the gap. I checked to see if my tube was bent and it seemed to be straight. I rotated it within it's housing to see if I could arrive at a position where both wings would meet with the fuselage sides perfectly. I could not do it. I spent two hours trying to make sure that I had not missed anything. Is this gap a condition of the plug in wings? I mean, is this normal for plug in wings? Does anyone else have a gap like I am describing? I guess if some of you guys piped up and said that you had the same thing on your planes, I would just accept it. Otherwise, I am going to be a bit miffed as to why I always have this rotten luck. One other thing for those of you who are using the YS 91. It seems as though I am going to have to get really creative with the throttle linkage. It looks as though the throttle on the YS lines up with the meaty part of the engine bearer. Either I have to drill a hole through it so that the cable or push rod can go through the mount, or , I am going to have to fashion some way to go around the mount. Does anyone out there have any insight on this issue? All things said and done though, this is still a very nice kit that I am very impressed with. I just have to get these two issues resolved and I will be okay.

I hope the solutions for these issues don't require more money to fix as I am pretty much over budget on this bird

I wouldnt worry about the gap mine is the same way and it doesnt affect the way the plane flys just make sure you are keeping up with all the recent talk on the cg setting set your cg around 3.75 or 4.0 inches to begin with . The motor linkage issue i mounted my ys 91 inverted and didnt have any problems i use the sullivan golden rod flex cable and have for years without any issues. If you have to drill holes around your mount or threw it that shouldnt be any problem also.

Hay Patrick....the pins on my right wing were off enough so that I had to realign the holes in the fuse. Check to be sure the rear pin is not binding in the fuse.....if it binds slightly, and you push hard enough to get the front part of the wing close to the fuse it will leave a slight gap in the rear. I had to cut about 1/8" off the tube because I had a gap of about a 1/16" between the wing and the fuse on both sides of the fuse know matter how hard i pushed. I haven't decided on an engine yet so you are ahead of me on that....

I also did not like the Wing to Fuselage fit on my Edge. After I changed my wing attachment method, my wings now fit snug against the fuselage. See my posts # 138 through #148 in the big " AW Edge 60/90 " thread in this same forum.
