Our club got burgled a couple of weeks ago and amongst the stuff that was taken was the Laser 4 transmitter belonging to our youngest member (10 years old) who'd scrimped and saved for a very long time to afford his RC gear. Fortunately the plane wasn't taken (the thieves probably thought it was "just a cruddy trainer" .

Fortunately the offenders were caught last week and much of the stolen gear was recovered -- but they'd pulled the crystal out of his Laser 4 transmitter and that was *not* recovered.

So now he as a Laser 4 transmitter (originally on Channel 19) but *no* crystal -- so he can't fly.

The set was bought through ServoCity but on their website they say "Hitec does not sell 72MHz FM transmitter crystals for the Neon, Laser 4, Laser 6, Flash 4 or Flash 5 transmitters. If you are needing to replace a crystal in one of these transmitters you need to send the unit into Hitec to replace and retune".

Now we're down here in NZ (where you *can* legally change crystals, and indeed the practice is widespread) -- but unfortunately you can't buy 72MHz Hitec crystals here because the local Hitec distributor only sells 35/36 and 40Mhz units (even though 72Mhz *is* legal).

Mike, what's the chances that you can help this kid out?

His next flight was to be his solo flight and how he's pretty cut up that his transmitter (although recovered) is useless to him.

The cost of sending it back to the USA to have a new crystal fitted would be greater than that of buying a new one (both being well beyond the immediate means of a 10-year-old who's already worked really hard to get himself a plane and RC gear).

Care to make his day?
