Well... I sure wish that I would have seen this thread before I purchased my Optic 6 last week. I purchased a new Optic 6 to replace my Eclipse 7. I never had any problems with my Eclipse in over year. Went to our local club's Cub fly in yesterday with my H9 J-3... and you guessed it, lost total control of the plane and it went in. No warning whatsoever. One minute I had the plane, the next minute it was gone. I thought for sure that it was a radio hit, and chalked it up to bad luck. When I got home, I checked the plane over to make sure it was not a mechanical or electrical problem and it was fine. Matter of fact everything worked fine after the crash. Needless to say, I was convinced that it was a radio hit. Plane is pretty much a total loss, but the important thing was no one was hurt. For those of you who have never had this happen, I pray that you never have to experience this. It is a really helpless feeling when you have an 8 pound aircraft that you have lost control of, and all you can do is watch and pray that it goes down and does not hit anyone. Of course I am upset that about losing a $400 plus plane, but I am more relieved that an innocent bystander or personal property was not hurt. Our hobby is having a hard enough time keeping our flying sites as it is. It does not need a tragedy like this to hurt it even more. Anyhow, I decided to take my Super Chipmunk out today. The Cub was on channel 23, and the Chip on 31. Each plane had a different receiver. I did an extensive grond check of the plane, and a thorough range check. Everything checked out. First flight went off without a problem. Second flight out, not so good. One minute the plane was there, the next I had no control. Boom! Into the ground. Sooo... I packed up and came home and decided to cehck out RCU and here I am. Now, I have been a Hitec user from day one. Great product at a good price. But from what I have seen from this thread, my case is not an isolated incident. Yet, Hitec is acknowledging a problem with this radio. But, they are not recalling the product, nor are they giving a new owner a heads up on this. Unfortunately, Hitec needs to realize a few things. Not everyone in this hobby would think to check RCU to determine if the product they wish to purchase is glitch free. Secondly, Hitec needs to pull this product before some one is hurt. At the very least, place a note in the packaging to warn of this potential problem. As for me, I am out two planes, and have a radio that I can not use. From what I have read, the tape fix that Hitec is offering is not the cure. As consumers, what do we do? I am sure Hitec is not willing to reimburse me for my planes and equipment. Nor do I feel that I should trust another plane to this radio, electrical tape fix or not. What say you Hitec? Regards, Rob
