If you fully charge your receiver battery and transmitter , how long will it hold its charge if not used . Say if you charge it up and cant get to fly for a week , should the charge still be good ? Also how long can you leave the radio on the charger [ say you forget to unplug ] . Thank you in advance .

I have noticed that batteries dont lose much voltage. I dont use my car transmitter and it stays close to the same voltage for a couple months. Every battery loses voltage. When I leave my lipo's sitting for a week I dont notice a difference in my flight time. I think the radio can charge for 18 hours. I forget to unplug it sometimes and its fine after 2 days.

My observation with NiCd's is that using the built in voltmeter on my Tx, fully charged it may reach 11.6 volts. Left alone for a week it will probably drop to 10.9 volts, but stays there for a couple of weeks.

That's borne out on an expanded scale volt meter on the Rx batteies also. It drops quickly to about 90% max, but it takes a long time to get to 85%.

Having said all that, I charge for 12 hours minimum the night before flying, and I haven't detected any ill effect from overcharging of NiCd's.

Run a search for Red's Battery Clinic; Red's the guru of batteries.

Voltage is not a good indication of how much energy is left in the battery when you are talking about NiCad or NiMh. NiCads will loose about 1 to 2 % of their capacity per day and NiMh discharge nearly twice as fast. LiPo and PB are much better at retaining energy and on them, voltage does indicate remaining capacity quite well.
