Just an update on the days work: The cowl came out pretty nicely I think...and yes, this one came off the plug too, so just a bit of filling/sanding, and I can use this plug to form another cowl for Stickbuilder's group, if desired. I wouldn't call the cowl 'professional", but it's certainly workable, and with a bit of sanding and patience, should come out just fine. Also got the instrument package from JTEC today, so got some time in on the instrument panel. I regret to say that, even at a mere $14, the JTEC instruments are pretty disappointing. The process began with JTEC e-mailing me telling me the item would be shipped on Monday. When I called them yesterday to ask why it hadn't arrived, i was told it asn't shipped until Wednesday, despite no notice of this change. Once I finally received the kit, I find that the printing is poor quality, and the "sheets of plastic bezels" aren't bezels at all...they're nothing more than a sheet of clear plastic. Perhaps someone should point out to JTEC that a bezel is defined as a "The surface ring on the watch that surrounds and holds the crystal in place" or, even more specific, "The crimped edge of metal that secures the glass face to an instrument." A bezel is certainly NOT the glass itself, nor is it a piece of plastic designed to mimic glass. To compound matters, despite coming with "eighty-three different gauges", there's a distinct LACK of such common gauges as EGT, CHT, etc. This could be because an item sold on a model AVIATION website includes 10 or so AUTOMOBILE gauges. All in all, the JTEC instrument kit just really isn't a top notch product, and not one I'll recommend or use in the future. However, I was able to make a "passable" instrument panel out of it I think...the picture really isn't all that hot, but you get the idea...sadly, you CAN'T see the best feature of the instrument panel...that rectangle in the middle is a copy of the actual Arresti diagram in Jim's plane this year at Tullahoma.
