Sounds like you're at the point of no return. No chance for a do over on this one, so the old saying "measure twice, cut once" applies here. When in doubt.....................WAIT!

*heh*

Yeah, that's why I always get jittery around this point of a build...as you say, there's no turning back. If this gets done wrong, or too early, then both the fuse and the stab are toast...basically, EVERYTHING I've completed to this point.

I've gone ahead and put the v-stab alignment blocks in. They can go in either before or after the h. stab is in place, and it gave me something else to do while my brain chewed on the h stab's "readiness". *heh*

The upside to all this is that the thing might just start looking like an airplane soon!

Well, the plunge was taken late last night. H stab went in last night, some sheeting and v stab went in this morning...v stab is drying as I type this.

This thing is beginning to look vaguely airplane shaped.

Did some more weighing today, now that things are a bit more built up...trying to get a more accurate guesstimate:

Fuse with both stabs and all rear sheeting on : 3 lb 1 oz
Elevators and Rudder : 9 oz
Wings w/ 2 servos : 4 lbs (estimated by weighing wings w/ servos from Giant Aeromaster, same wingspan...added 5 oz since those are built up wings, mine will be foam core)
Cowl, Painted : 10 oz
Landing Gear (left this one off last time, estimated by doubling the .40 sized Bulldog's gear, including ply mounting block) : 1 lb 10 oz
4 servos (2 elev, PP rudder, Throttle) : 7 oz
2 batts : 10 oz
2 Switches/Rx : 2 oz
2 tanks (smoke/fuel) : 8 oz
Cockpit Frame : 2 oz
Remaining sheeting on fuse : 4 oz (Rear sheeting is done)

This comes out to 11 lbs 15 oz. The stock G-62 w/o muffler is listed at 4 lbs 9 oz. Since I'll be having RC Ignitions lighten it, we'll call the muffler a wash, and go with that number to come up at 16lb 8 oz

So I'm still left with a pound and a half to stay inside my 18 lb target weight, and I've now included a known weight for tail feathers and cowl, as well as included the forgotten gear (at what is probably an over-estimate). Unless the wings come out CONSIDERABLY heavier than my guess, I think I'm right on track to be inside the weight I was shooting for.

Much work was done today...absolutely NONE of it on an airplane. Van needed new breaks, computer crashed last night necessitating some maintenance, blah blah blah.

So...in the absence of any building over the weekend (travel plans), i decided I needed a few minutes of plain ole "step back and admire what you've done so far" time. It's starting to come together, I think.

In any event, y'all have a very Merry Christmas, and if you're traveling, be safe and well!

Maudib,

Thanks! Those pics are, as it turns out, VERY useful, as they give me some great shots of the cabanes without the wings in the way. Very much appreciated!

50cc... it was a Miles Reed/Dave Dessecker plan built... covered to look like the Bulldog... I was actually building two... and after getting the first done was going to modify the second to have more scale features...
