It's my understanding (and I may be incorrect, so don't quote me on this ... I'm just recalling from memory about reading it somewhere) that the ESC has a built in voltage sensor and cuts the draw from the battery before it can get below a certain voltage. I know whenever I've lost power that the drop in power indicated to me to land immediately.
Whenever I tested the voltage before recharging, it was always above the 10V minimum that the lipo should ever experience.
I think knowing the length of flight time for whatever battery you use is a trial and error thing since it depends on what battery you use. The best way to do this is by timing this and keeping a log for each battery. This will also let you know if the battery condition is degrading over time. I'm sure that an electronic guru could hook up a flashing led that only will flash below a set voltage ... I'm no such guru unfortunately.
Somewhere in all my reading I read something about this ... try some forum and google searches for "low voltage sensor" or "low voltage indicator" with other keywords like "li-poly" and "RC". Keep us posted if you find something. I wish I remembered where I read about it.

The LiSaver is one way to keep from discharging the li-poly too much.

Well, at least here in Europe you get a mini jack to mini jack(3,5mm) that connects to your mic in port on your PC
I also got a manual for this with the Falcon.
you have to set up some audio preferences to make it work.
I did not bather with it as I have a MacIntosh and it will not recognize it as well as the standard usb cable that you can buy as an option. I would buy the usb cable if I had a Bill Gates controlled computer..

I totally agree JJT, I don't think I would experience the problems I've been having trying to get the MIC connection going if I were to invest in a USB Cable w/ blackbox, but then again, I don't know for sure.
I've never had an issue with any USB device before (I have Win XP). I've read where people got the MIC connection to work but I'm not willing to mess with that route any more ... I put in at least 3 hours trying and it's just not worth it to me. (I do know computer pretty well and usually have no problems with this kind of thing)
If anyone has gotten the USB Cable to work with the Falcon 3D TX and FMS on XP I'd be interested in hearing about it.

Perhaps it's worth the $30-40 cable to give it a try.

In the shop where I purchased my Falcon(I have 30 RC shops within a 5 mile radius- small country),
they have the Art-tech tx dedicated(usb) sim controller hooked up to a computer on the sales desk for anyone to try.
It works just fine, but Im not sure what sim they are using.
I can find out if you are interested.
Im pretty sure the usb cable will work on any PC sim, but will ask as soon as possible(next crash)
What cable did you get?(if you got your falcon at all, cant keep track of all you people waiting)
BTW I just ordered the CDP4 copilot from the UK, should be arriving wedensday...
Thanks bjett80 and millst for the input

A Question for the knowledgeable forum:
would it be possible to use the not connected CH5 on my supplied TX as an on/off switch for the CPD4 copilot?

Hello again JJT,

I really think the USB would work for FMS which is what I would be using. I do have the Falcon 3D and got the MIC plug with it (same on both ends).

It's funny you should mention getting CPD4 Co-Pilot ... I just ordered it yesterday.
Perhaps we can compare notes on installation/setup and use.
I'm totally new to heli's and RC and am just trying to maintain a stable hover right now.
I think it's important to get hovering down, so I'll be practicing that without the CPD4 for a while to get that down.
After that I think it will help me move on to trying some more things with some sort of safety net.

If the Co-Pilot is anywhere as good as most all users I've read about say it is then it will pay for itself in short order.
I'm pretty excited about getting it, won't be here till about the middle of Sept though, holidays and all here.
I also asked Millst a few questions regarding it.

Keep us posted on how you like it. I gather that it's very important to have the heli set up right before installing CPD4 and that it's installed and checked well before use to avoid problems. Sure sounds like it will help though ... should be fun.

Regards,
Dave

Hi Dave
My thoughts exactly. Im new to helis just like you
however i contemplated the FMS8 with the vertical sensor because I thought it might help me in the distant
future venture into 3D flight.
It would of cause be a much bigger !QUOT!investment!QUOT! as one would need a new(and better) tx
any thoughts on that?

Hi Jens,

I thought about the FS8 too, but I figured that the CPD4 was best for this heli.
I think if I had a real expensive ($800-1500) heli then it might be worthwhile getting the "Full Meal Deal". (Although it's really not that much more expensive)

I'm just looking for a little help on stabalization of the x and y axis kind of like the gyro helps with the z axis.
For me, I get into trouble when I get disoriented (anything except tail-in ... hehe).

I think it will help me advance a little faster into FF, circuits and figure 8's etc.
No clubs or other heli pilots around where I live, so I'm on my own.
If I can avoid one bad crash, the CPD4 just paid for itself.

I didn't see that much advantage to the other systems that FMA offers, maybe I'm overlooking something but I think that even if you are inverted and let go of the sticks that the CPD4 will put you into a stable (upright) hover. I don't think I'd depend on it helping a great deal if I were too low to the ground, as it does need some time to react and right the heli.

Dave

Thanks Dave
dont know whats happening with the!QUOTS! in my post. what is that?
will keep you posted with my (hopefully) progress with and installation of the CDP4
Will look closely at and be guided by our helibro millst´s input.

I will probably have few CDP4questions for you millst, that you can hopefully
answer..haha
BTW I think its amazing and fulfilling that we can be at literally the opposite
side of this planet(approx 11.000 miles apart) and still have at least two things
in common: The Falcon 3D and the crownprinsess Mary of Denmark

JJT,

How fair is that? You have the crownprinsess Mary of Denmark and we're stuck with the crowndunce of Texas ...

As for using Channel 5 for the CPD4, I have an email into Art-Tech asking about that. I don't think they are very good at answering their email so no promises there but if I find out anything I'll let you know (let me know if you find out anything on CH5 too, please)

Happy Landings,

Dave

If you guys want a good cheap lipoly alarm go to www.ezonemag.com and pm ThanhTran, he makes them with both LED lights and Pizo alarms for a really good price and they weigh very little as well. As far as the Sim cable that comes with the Art-Tech Falcon 3D I haven't used it since I have several Sims and one good controller that came with G-2.

well what happend to all the owners who already have their falcon? no time to have some air time?

I am in the market to look for an aftermarket transmitter as well since i will progress on from the falcon to other heli like mx400 or trex later on. whats a good transmitter that you guys would advise i get?

and is everyone still using their stock tx/rx on their falcon or already upgraded already?

cheers

Hi Fellas,

Well as you all know, I've had tremdous luck with my Falcon, over 40 flights and only 1 broken blade. For me, that's a feat in itself.

The bad news, I think it may have been flight 45 or so. Yep, my luck ran out. It was pretty windy outside, so I decided to practice hovering in the garage, which I do all the time.. I had a hard landing and hit the tail rotor, I checked everything out and all appeared to be fine and dandy. I spooled up, lifted of the ground and about 3 seconds later, it went into a wild spin. I cut the throttle and it banged into my table saw. Bent the tail boom, I think it's repairable. see picture and advise..
I think what happened is, after the first hard landing and striking the tail rotor, I believe it may have damaged the tail shaft and the next attempted flight ended it.

Dave / Choppersrule

Think it's fixable?

I'm still using the receiver and transmitter my Falcon came with since I didn't want to have to buy another receiver right now. For my Eolo, REX, Corona I'm using a Eclipse 7 which I really like. I'm hoping Hitec releases the 2.4 GHz upgrade soon for it since it practically eliminates all glitches. Lately I've gotten a few glitches on my TREX SE, fortunately they have been minor and only lasted a second. But, even one second can get the old heart pumping fast since the TREX can respond so fast! For the money the Hitec Eclipse 7 is a good value, Futaba is a very good radio as well, JR is probably fine too. The new Spektrum is ok for the money, $199.00 but has limited features, i.e., only a 3 point throttle curve and 3 point pitch curve. Spektrum is fantastic for rejection of interference though!

Hi Choppersrule,I,d try to strighten it,youve nothing to lose by trying. If you have or know someone with a lathe you can spin it slowly in the chuck and use a piece of wood to carefully push on the boom,do short sections at a time or if no lathe try a wood dowel, need a pretty good fit and slowly push dowel into boom while pulling bend out.The kink can be pushed out by using the dowel to push one of the shaft bearings through the boom.Good luck. Yup,

It can be fixed if the dents aren't too deep. I used the same method of pushing the bearing through to push the dents out from inside.
I used a dowel also ... actually worked quite well.

Chopper, I PM'd ya on repair details.
