Chopper here,

Well, the verdict is... Have to order some parts. After looking at the tail boom again, it's bent more than I thought. Plus, it's twisted and the indentations are pretty deep. Oh, and the tail drive shaft is broken too, twisted right in half. So after this post, I'll be Johnny on the spot ordering my new stuff. All, I need is the tail drive set, tail boom and tail drive shaft. Cost, right at $20.00, plus shipping.
I feel very luck, other than an early set of blades, this has been the worst crash I've had. But, all in all, it really isn't that bad.

Thought I'd post a couple pictures, 1 of the helis I have, and the others of the broken tail shaft.
Oh, the picture of my helis is an older one, you have to add a Blade CP Pro to it. Just pretend it's there.

All you guys on this thread are pretty cool, keep 'em flying,

Dave / Choppersrule

gary: wow thats still a broad selection , for a budget of under $200 , which radio will be the best having no glitches/interference?

BTW: i found one bare bone helimax mx400 pro kit for sale with no electronics used but in good condition for $100 shipped. is that a damn good deal or what? just want to ask expert idea on this one

and does anyone which shop carries metal/aluminum upgrade parts that can be used on the falcon as well........just to know if parts can be interchanged on the mx400 , trex etc

well, that's a lot of heli and a huge leap up from where you are on the BCP.. and then there's parts and support

for me, before I'd spend $500 on any heli I'd need to know a reputable parts dealer for that moddel that would also offer tech support
(and then there's upgrades)

that said, it seems like a sweet deal

decisions...decisions!

evoIX,

Concerning the MX 400 Pro, if it's still in the box, it's a very good deal? tower hobbies has the same set up for about $650 or so.
If used, I normally stay away from that. Just buying someone elses problems.

evoIX,

In a word, Trex. However, the Mx is a great bird too. Question to ask yourself, what does the LHS carry as far as parts are concern?

Then you'd be dependent on ordering parts online and waiting.

Like we all know, it's a hard, hard decision to make.

Just take your time, and check out everything you can think of on the web.

Best of luck,

Dave / Choppersrule

Hi-

I thought I had my mind made up for my second bird (Blade CP Pro), but this thread on the falcon has my curiosity peaked. Looking at the thread regarding the DPD4 copilot, can that be used with the Falcon for us beginners in the hovering stages?

Thanks,
Arce

Btmouse,

Yes, the DPD4 is really an excellent upgrade, per say, for beginners. I've had my Falcon for some time now and love it to death.

Here's the link for the DPD4:

Here's the link to Hobby Lobby for specs on the Falcon and ordering info.

It's always a hard decision, and how big your wallet is .

Best to ya,

Dave / Choppersrule

I'm still in the market for a flight sim like the G3 but....would the copilot be a better investment and skip the sim if I were to get the Falcon?

BTW, that is a sweet looking bird and it's making it hard to make a good decision.

Btmouse,

More hard decisions. Flight sim or not. Some swear by them and that it really helps them in actual flight, others think that it's a waste of good money.. IE.. I could by a ton of spare parts for what I paid for the sim.

Myself, I've been doing the heli thing for 8 months and never had a sim. I've thought about getting on, but never had.

IMO, the co-pilot is less expensive the almost any sim. Plus, it's an upgrade to the heli. Real helis have all the electrical whiz bang things, why can't we. I've just ordered the co-pilot tonight and so did one of my friends. Can't wait to get it.

Just more food for thought,, Hard isn't it Keep in mind, this can be a very expensive hobby and addictive to say the least
But most hobbies are costly.

Dave / Choppersrule

I had no SIM experience and didn't even bother trying the SIM that comes with the falcon, the falcon is my first chopper but i've flown RC planes before.
I just bought a co-pilot and use the real thing rather than bother with a SIM.
I've got 7 flights on the falcon / co-pilot combo now, no crashes, no training, no sim.
I'm down to 80% gain now on it and on my last flight finally got the courage to flick into idle up and did my first high altitude auto-gyro.
I'm having a ball with this thing, and its a whole lot more fun and less stressful than trying to learn without stabilization.
Basically I just wanted to get out there and fly and have fun so I don't really care if the hard core guys say I'm cheating with a stabilizer.
I'm having tonnes of fun and I'm not crashing so its not costing me an arm and a leg to learn the hard way and therefore I think I'm more likely to be still doing it in 6 months time rather than becoming disillusioned the first time I crash.
I know I'm likely to crash at some point but at least it won't be on my first flight and now that i've been bitten by the bug by having so many successful flights i'll be very eager to get back up in the air if it does come down hard.
The best advise I think I could give you is...

1) go slowly, don't rush it, check, double check and triple check the co-pilot is working properly.
2) if it isn't right, don't fly. go home and repeat step 1.
3) don't let the co-pilot fool you into having a false sense of security, when things go wrong they go wrong quick.
4) go through all the recommended training steps, learn to hover with the co-pilot just as you would without it, don't jump straight into scooting around I had a couple of close calls early on.

I'd like to report that the co-pilot works very well even on the falcon in relatively high winds.
Yesterday I flew in what were quite strong gusty conditions and all that happened was the falcon rose in the breeze, i just pointed it into the wind and lent on the forward stick and it just sat there in mid air.

I'm enjoying the falcon more and more every day and when its used in conjunction with a co-pilot i reckon its a winning newb combo.
You get a very stable platform with tonnes of power and the ability to move on 3d when you are ready.

Thanks Millst and Choppersrule ! Your posts have helped me with some hard choices especially after finding out how the copilot and falcon combo has worked out.

I have a Helimax Rotofly as my first heli that I've been learning to fly. So far my repair bill list has only been 3 sets of the rotor bearings, a rear tail rotor motor and the most costly component of the lot, one of the servo's that has a sticking gear. It's grounded right now till I get the servo in. I've gotten confident with hovering and some fwd flight. Looks like the Falcon will be the heli I can use outdoors, especially with the copilot as my crutch for now.

I went ahead and ordered the Falcon and Copilot. Can you post some picks of your copilot setup on the Falcon for me Millst.
[EDIT] Found your post. Can't wait for my order to get in !

Thanks
