Poiyt I wouldn't worry to much since Hobby Lobby has sold over 200 so far and they have had probably less that 5% return rate. In any event if you have a problem Hobby Lobby will take care of it, granted it's a pain but there's no sure thing when it comes to these small complicated helicopters. I'm sure that Art-Tech is getting feedback from Hobby Lobby about the various problems that have been reported. The Falcon flies very well for the price, comes complete (which in it's self is significant) and is realitive easy to fly. Don't start worrying about something that may or may not be and issue. I have no vested interest in the Falcon or Hobby Lobby but I do know value when I see it. If you've read my posts you'll see I have had several years of experience flying model helis. Much of the problems reported so far have been operator error, i.e., no previous experience with model helicopters much less anything dealing with RC. If you already know how to fly a helicopter then you'll be along ways ahead of the rest of the pack.

Gary

Hi Poiyt,

I had to wait quite a while to get my Falcon as they were backordered when I place my order. It's easy to start worrying about whether you made the right choice ... I know I did too since I had all that time to think about it and surf the net and find other possible heli's that I could have chosen instead and read as much as I could about what I could find on the Falcon at that time (which wasn't much then, which made me worry even more).

Well, I'm very happy that I didn't make another choice now, the Falcon is, IMO, a great heli and well worth the $ and the wait.
When you get your heli, look it over, go through the pre-flight checks in the revised manual, and look the connections over, but if your experience is anything like mine, you will be a very happy camper.

You should know also that Hobby Lobby has been good to work with should anything not be working perfectly.

It's my experience that with any electronics that if something is going to go wrong, it usually happens right off when they are placed under full load, a bench test usually catches this but as with any equipment, computers included, not always I've had my share of problems with brand name power supplies in a few computers I've owned ...

... I wouldn't worry, I think you will be pleasantly surprised ...

Best wishes ...

Hi Gary,

I didn't see your post until I posted ... funny ... we had nearly the same thing to say ...

I am finally starting to be able to work the sticks without having to really think about it ... got in some nice hovering yesterday and can't wait till I get a chance to get out again ... it is definately a very fun heli!

With your experience and my lack of experience (never used any R/C before) ... it's amazing that we can both enjoy the same heli so much.
I think that says a lot for the engineering on the Falcon ...

... It's held up extremely well through my initial hard landings ... now I'm starting to enjoy it's stability and flying potential ...
... if I can just get my thumbs trained a little bit better ...

Poiyt & all,

I wouldn't let the fact that my Falcon had a bad ESC dissuade anyone from purchasing this heli.

If a company sold 10000 widgets and only one of them was bad, I would be the guy to buy the
bad one. It's always been that way and has become something of a joke in the family. I've
learned to take it in stride .... what karma takes away karma gives back somewhere else.

My thinking was that for $300 I could get the Falcon or I could get the Honey Bee King. With the
HB King I would get a heli from a long established company, and I love my HB FP to this day.

With the Falcon I could get :

1) Significantly more rugged frame than the HB King (just look at the landing struts for example)
2) 1300 lipo battery
3) Brushless motor
4) Everything is put together ... looked to me like you had to install the servo's on the King.
5) Training gear is included.

My 'brief' experience with the Falcon hasn't changed my mind .... I liked it enought to toy with the
idea of just replacing the ESC instead of sending it back for a new one .... and I see the backorder
date has slide to 9/1 ... anyway, I already bought the only defective ESC ..... so you've got nothing to
worry about !

Hi Bjett80,

I was sorry to hear about your initial experience, I think your karma will definately come back in hours of way cool flying this heli ...
... the waiting is definately a hassle, but I'm really glad to hear that HL is taking care of ya ... gives me comfort knowing that they feel it's a product that they stand behind.

I hope ya get your new one soon and that you get to havin' fun with it ...
... man, they are starting to sell these at a quickening pace ... a larger base of owners will really help the knowledge base ... I think that's a good thing ...

Take Care

Yah, I have the revised manual, and have read it many times.

I still have my BCP and Lama2 to fiddle with, so I think I'll live after all

Also, yeah, everytime I take a heli to work, I cause quite a stir. One day, I was outside hovering it, and was really 'in the zone'. One of my co-workers walked up behind me (without me noticing), and slapped me on the back and said, 'That's neat!'. I then took it home and replaced the broken blades, bent shaft, and spindle

Poiyt and bjett80 : gosh I know how you feel man poiyt , since now it's on backorder and someone actually see more problems with the heli kinda make me consider some other helicopter like sjm400 , HB king and the hdx300. *shrugs* are u still sticking to it or u goin to cancel the order?

the HDX300 is kinda expensive though.

anyone with experience of seeing the falcon and the 3 birds i mentioned above care to chime in some comments?

skyup: yea , now since its on backorder and i have to wait makes me read a lot more about the heli and the more i read the bigger scope of different heli come to my favourite list like the ark x400 being sold in ebay for $380 RTF.

more experience on how is the stock falcon is holding up? or after a few flights down it goes? I also worry with the sudden increase of demand and the pressure for the factory to speed things up , quality control might go down... oh worries.... =(

I couldn't find any RTF x400 helis on ebay... Could you post a link to it please? All I can find are x400 kits.

I bought a really nice Align 450 SE for $480.00, bought servos $100.00, receiver $69.00, TP 2100 $75.00, GY-401 gyro for $134.00, Align full size carrying case $70.00, crashed it after two flight, parts to repair it $75.00, flew it again this past weekend, switched to idle up and stripped main gear $10.00, so now I have a simular sized helicopter with over $1,003.00 in it and it's grounded. Now tell me the Falcon isn't a good deal!

EvoIX: My experience has been very good.... Once I had 'er trimmed, seems to get better & better.... Only issue I've had is corrosion in the ESC wires.. (see previous post). As a disclaimer, however, I'm only hovering.... Making progres though..... I'm keepin' it in the county now.....

Well allllllllll righty, then!!! Gary, Bjett80, EvoIX, Skyup...guys, thanks for the posts and thanks for the "hang-in-there,-it'll-come-soon" support... But still, gotta wait another week?? Maybe longer?? Rats!! I guess high demand & low supply = backorder

Here's my takeaway from what I think you guys are telling me:

a) the F3D is a great heli, RTF, and has a very good cost-to-value ratio; in short, a good deal
b) so what's another week's wait?? get over it!!
c) any large production run will have units w/ occasional hiccups.. not to worry
d) did I mention the F3D is a great little heli?

Ok, I'm convinced! and if I would have recvd my heli today, I'd be out flying it...But, while I hunker down now & wait for another week (maybe longer?), there are a couple thoughts that have crept in... (and please! this has NOTHING to do with how nice the F3D is, or HL's support for it, etc etc etc), such as: what if the del date slips again?
Then ya hit the web & start poking around, and ya go "hmmmmm.... wonder what heli may be out there that is comparable, readily available, and has a track record? And ya go "hmmm....." And then ya may wonder "if the heli's are backordered due to demand (which is a GOOD SIGN!), then what about Falcon parts? How's their stock? Oh well, thankfully, I still have my trust 'ol BCP to throw around and help take my mind off the wait.. heck, I may even go out & slap a BH mixer on it and go a little "crazy".. (Darn it, these heli addictions are tough!!)

thanks again guys & keep the good posts coming!!

Jeff

i think it would be cool for you experienced heli pilots to post a thread something like

"servicing helicopter 101"

or

" pitch etc cyclic , all those terms and how adjusting them can do different things"

"How you should not fly the stock falcon to prevent damage"

that sorta deal...

cheers

Sounds like a good deal til you figure in shipping, $59.00, insurance $12.00, Helicopter $299.00, then what if you need spare parts, are they available without delay? What may sound like a good investment may not be. It ships from Hong Kong, and it says and I quote
"1. All sales are final.

2. There are no refunds or exchanges unless the product is completely defective.(Shipping & Handling is non-refundable)

3. Defective item must be returned no later than 7 days after you receive it. You will not be charged any additional shipping and handling fees for replacement shipments.

4. In case of missing parts, please notify us no later than 7 days after you receive the item and we will arrange re-shipment of relavant parts."

I found a similar deal on a 6Ch Suprex-3D Pro CCPM ... lots of nice bling ... but ...

... I thought about it a lot and went with the Falcon because of Hobby Lobby support and parts.
I asked the ebay seller a bunch of questions and they did respond but the parts available thing was too iffy.
Some of these ebay deals may be ok, but how do you really know?
I've delt with ebay and had no real problems, but I was worried about the support and parts.

I really like the Falcon, it's solid, backed up and has full parts support ... that makes me comfortable about spending $300.
Now that I have the Falcon, I have to tell you that I'm glad that's the route that I went. I'm a newbie and rough on this heli starting out and it's holding up very well.

There are also more and more Falcon owners and a good knowledge base is being established.
That's worth a lot to me.

Do what you feel is right for you, all, but know that I went the route of getting the Falcon and I have no regrets, I wouldn't say that unless I was really happy with my purchase. I think there's not a better deal out there right now, I shopped around a lot.

Whatever any of you decide, it's probably the best choice for you ... I wish all of you the very best in future flight.

Yeah guys, ain't the grass always greener? And while that may be true, I'm with you... I'm personally very skittish about handing over 300-400 bucks to some internet vendor from another country I've never heard of... so I'll likely hang another week, but if the Falcon is backordered on H-L again for the third in a row week I'll probably go another route- because to me, those type of inventory issues mean something's up- and who knows? maybe the same could happen to parts support (backorders, etc)

Also, fwiw, I'd emailed sales@hobby-lobby.com yesterday (Thursday) morning asking if they'd charged my Visa (i.e., had a "pending" charge), but as of Fri night now, no reply to my msg... (I had tried to call but was put on a long hold).... I suppose they were probably just busy..

One vendor I know very well & trust (due to all the stuff $$$$ I've ordered for my BCP!) is helidirect.com; their service is impeccable and, while you typically can't directly call Steve on the landline like you can hobbylobby, they're never missed replying to one of my msgs within at most 2 hours (even of weekends!)... and in looking at their RTF kits (always excellent prices) it looks like they now have the ARK X-400, which is supposedly a hot little number designed by the guy behind the Trex (is the ARK a poor man's Rex??)... plus, helidirect's shipping is always the same day I order, never failed yet

In the meantime I always have the BCP to throw around; which is always entertaining!!

thx guys!!
Jeff

I've had really good luck with HeliDirect too!
I'll never worry about dealing with them ... service is where it's at for me too ... I think HD knows that and has a great following because of it.
So far, Hobby Lobby has also been as reliable, I have no problem feeling the same about HL unless proven otherwise.

Standing behind a product is the true test of any business ... so far i've never heard a bad word about Hobby Lobby either.

lol yea i figure you're right with the support sky up especially for a beginner like me too. need all the support i need for a heli , rather than being frustrated setting up a heli and still cant hover it.

so anyone want to start a thread on

" servicing the falcon 101" ? cause chris from HL told me all helis need to be service from time to time and i cant find any thread on it.

and another thread "adjusting pitch for setting?" and maybe " how do you program your tx to do certain tihngs?"

well i was quite frustrated seeing the back order date is 8/24 and suddenly now it changed to 1st sept which seems fishy . if it changes again im goin to cancel it i guess

Nah, me either, skyup.. always heard good things about HL, never any bad..
Sad to say, that's not been exactly what I've experienced thus far.. there's already a few things about my initial experience so far with them on this, my very first order (the Falcon), that gives me pause and makes me think hmmmm...

While I'm not trying to be critical, because I know they have a great following, I just dunno... in contrast, thus far for me anyway, HL don't seem to be as "tight" as helidirect (whatever that means!).. that is, in the many months I've dealt with them, helidirect's is always spot-on: tight on inventory, tight in responses to emails, tight on prices, tight on shipping, tight on when backordered stuff will come in , etc etc etc (watch them disappoint me on my next order! Grrrr!.. but I doubt it)

But this may be because heli's are all helidirect does, whereas HL does all manner of RC's

Regardless, I think this board I've stumbled onto is great, and I appreciate everyone's input... always helpful!!

gonna hit it now,
cheers, Jeff
