yup , tried to do it with the BCP but the bcp made me too frustrated so i stopped it when i sold the heli.

so i hope now with a bigger heli i make a better choice......

is this consider a micro or a mini?

and skyup , you sound more like an expert on the heli than most of us. if you said you're a beginner too , care to point out where or which thread you actually read up on setting pitch and doin what will cause what to happen?

thanks

Nah, me either, skyup.. always heard good things about HL, never any bad..
Sad to say, that's not been exactly what I've experienced thus far.. there's already a few things about my initial experience so far with them on this, my very first order (the Falcon), that gives me pause and makes me think hmmmm...

While I'm not trying to be critical, because I know they have a great following, I just dunno... in contrast, thus far for me anyway, HL don't seem to be as "tight" as helidirect (whatever that means!).. that is, in the many months I've dealt with them, helidirect's is always spot-on: tight on inventory, tight in responses to emails, tight on prices, tight on shipping, tight on when backordered stuff will come in , etc etc etc (watch them disappoint me on my next order! Grrrr!.. but I doubt it)

But this may be because heli's are all helidirect does, whereas HL does all manner of RC's

Regardless, I think this board I've stumbled onto is great, and I appreciate everyone's input... always helpful!!

gonna hit it now,
cheers, Jeff

I've had all good experiences with helidirect until just recently. I've been trying to get a problem resolved with the bore in the cnc center hub being too large for a couple of weeks now, and they have just stopped responding. One more week, and I'm callin' the credit card company....

I have a feeling they're just busy, and will resolve the problem eventually. I am a patient person, but after a few weeks, my patience runs out... I really do hope they work it out, because they have a lot of stuff I want to get eventually, and would hate to have to black-ball them

I talked to HL about adjusting the tail servo ... they were very helpful. I also put my Falcon on the bench and went through it making sure all screws were tight etc. Did some repair on the tail boom when I dinged that up etc ... I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, I just use my common sense and do read a lot and ask questions when I don't know how to approach a problem. It's easier when you have the heli sitting on the bench and can see it up close and personal, operate the servos and watch what happens and follow the linkages, make sure each connection is working as it's designed to work etc. I can't really attribute my learning to an one thread or site, just a combination of all of the above. I try to help others where I can but don't want to mislead anyone since I am new to heli's and R/C.

evoIX.. good stuff
as I said on an earlier post, the MX400 is supposed to be a hot little number (just look at the rating!).. but what I'd like to see is a weighted comparison, showing subjective cost/value ratings (ps, why hasn't somebody put out an elec heli magazine??)

thx
Jeff

Bjett80,

Thanks for the birthday wishes, it was a milestone for us old guys, hit the big 60, yes, 60, yesterday the 25th.
That's why I'm a backyard flyer, my brain says I'm 25, but my reflexes aren't what the use to be.

Back to business:

Sorry I haven't been on the post for a while, been very busy. I get from 50 to 75 e-mails and replys daily.

I've read all the posts, since my last input. Sounds, like some are just having a blast, and some may have second thoughts about the Falcon. The waiting period, possible bad ESC, corrosion on soldiered connections ect.. And looking at other options.

To make it in brief, it doesn't matter what heli you decide on, you could have equally or even worse problems. As mentioned several times over many posts, the Falcon for the prices is a hands down winner.

As Gary M. mentioned in one of his post, he purchased a T-rex and other needs, and had problems after a few flights after a cost of $ 1,000 plus.

I'm sure you must all know that this is an expensive hobby bare none.

Just be patient on getting your orders received, and problems corrected.

Currently, I have somewhere about 40 flights on the Falcon, (need to keep track), and still have only broken 1 set of blades.

I can't say that for any of the other helis I have, it seems like a have to repair something on my Blade CP everyweek or so..

The Falcon is a good heli, just give it time and learn by experience..

Best to all,

Dave / Choppersrule

Hey guy's I'm thinking about throwing my hat into the heli game.
Can you tell me all that comes in the box with the Falcon 3D?
I've read some where that it comes with radio and electronics, brushless motor and speed control, head holding gyro, training gear, a cable to connect the tx to your computer, flight sim software, lipo battery, lipo charger, and what about the lipo charger does it balance the battery or just charge it and how's the quality of the charger? How long does it take to charge the battery? I've also read that it comes with carbon blades, wood blades, and foam blades wrapped in heat shrink what blades does it come with?

Thanks for your help,

hollywood_72

hollywood72, welcome to the "heli addiction" (you'll understand more about what that means later!!)!!
I'm still flying my Blade CP while waiting for my Falcon; but many other posters here who own the Falcon can tell you about it.. all agree it's an awesome machine for the $$$!!! If you're new to helis they're a stout challenge, and everyone (incl me) highly recommends RADDS Rotary Flt School for new pilots
Welcome to the Club...You'll love it!!

choppersrule, many thx for the info.. very helpful!.. in fact, you're the first one I've talked to who actually has the Falcon..
mind a couple more questions? the Falcon is about $90 to $100 more (RTF) than the Esky Honeybee King (which I think has a "replaceable brushes" motor- here's a link: http://www.heli-fever.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=1&products_id=573) but, ya get what ya pay for.. also, since it's a new model, where did you get yours? hobby-lobby? were you satisfied, and do they support it? how about parts? unfortunately, the King now seems to be sold-out everywhere (avail mid/late Sep) so the Falcon may bes the best price/value choice... but gear-driven tail??? thanks again for any input

Poiyt:

I don't believe the HB King comes with a brushless motor or a HH Gyro. Those would easily costs more then $100.00 so, the Falcon looks like a good deal still.

I have a Blade CP, which is very durable. And a TREX which flies great, but costs and arm and a leg when it breaks. The Falcons and Kings seem to be somewhere in between, but I do like the Falcon as a package.

Cheers!

Happy Birthday Chopper, I recently celibrated my 59th so I know the feeling, but as long as I can still see and keep my reflexes up to speed I'll be flying helicopters. Today I flew three, the Falcon, my repaired Trex SE and my faithful Eolo Pro. All did well and survived to fly another day. Today was a milestone for me too, I have two brand new grandbabies!! A beautiful bouncing baby boy, Blake, and a beautiful bouncing girl, Makayla both born today at 12:30pm!
As far as what blades you get they will probably be woodies covered with heatshrink film, as far as the battery charger it's a non-balancing type that's inexpensive but will do the job. It should charge your batteries in about and hour. As someone else mentioned flying helicopters can become very addictive, ask me how I know this! If I had saved all the money over the past three years on helicopters I could be taking a round the world cruise for two, real heli flight lessons for a month or do what I'm doing now which is having a ball!

Gary

Gary,

I know this is off the topic of the Falcon, but thanks so much for the Happy Birthday.
I'm 60, as you know. I don't take any medication, don't wear glasses, haven't been to a doctor in over 30 years for an illness. I do go for check ups. Just had one done in the last month, blood work and all that. All is 100%. Even the doctors are awed...Guess it's my German and Hungarian blood line.. A little trivia: The mid Europeians have the best statistically best health records. That being, Germans, Hungarians and the Slovackians. I have two out of three, hmmm, seems that the statistic are right. I feel very, very lucky.
I have 2 daughter, 28 and 26 years old and 1 grand child by each. One 5 and one 6. Life is great.

Falcon report:

Holy cow, I can't think of a thing. Everything is just working perfectly for me. Still only 1 broken blade.
I'll try to be more active, just haven't had the time lately.

Oh, me too, the money thing.. Just in the last 8 or 9 months, all my helis and parts is over 2 grand.

Best to you,

Dave / Choppersrule

How about the flight sim and the cable to connect the tx to your computer? If it does have that, that alone would make the Falcon 3D worth buying over some of the other models.

Thanks again,

Hey guys
I'm in the process of learning how to fly my falcon(first timer) and this forum has been of immense help
understanding the do and donts of learning. Thank you everyone and especially Gary with his massive input.
however I have a problem with the gyro and or tail rotor control. Most of time when I power the chopper up
the gyro light doesn't come on and I have no tail rotor control(of cause I switch on the transmitter before the heli)
just the four warning beeps or whatever that is(dosent say in the !QUOT!manual!QUOT!).
I have tried everything I could think of, turning the heli off and on maybe 30 times in a row while waiting
an appropriate !QUOT!reboot!QUOT!time, up to 5mins. Then after giving up, powering up the next morning it works just fine...
theres no saying when it will work and when it wont. I also tried changing batteries in the transmitter as well as
placing it a few meters from the heli. My ch5 switch is not connected.
I should mention that when I switch on the heli before the transm. the gyro light blinks.
Is this a transmitter problem? or am I missing something obvious?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Best Regards

Hi Jason,

The blinking when you turn on the heli before the transmitter is normal.
Since it works fine the next morning, it sounds like the lipo has just gained a volt or two back by sitting.
What I'm getting at is that it sounds like you may be experiencing the lipo getting below 10V where the ESC has a Low Voltage Cutoff so you can't drain your lipo down too low.
Do you have a volt meter, maybe check that. Is the lipo fully charged when this is happening ... You should have about 12.64V in the lipo when fully charged. The charger will turn from red to greenish yellow.

The only other thing to maybe check is the wires that go from the lipo to the ESC, someone else said the wires were corroded and not making a good solder connection there. I am guessing but it sounds like your gyro is working, just low voltage for some reason.

Best of Luck, I hope you get the problem worked out.

I have the Falcon too, haven't experienced any problems yet other than pilot errors ... O

Oh, my CH5 wires aren't connected either, I called Hobby Lobby and they checked a few and they weren't connected either. The Gyro is on Heading Hold by default, so this should not be a problem. I wouldn't worry about the CH5 switch at all.

and yes it happens when its fully charged and when its close to drained, so Im convinced its not a voltage issue.
I cant find any systematic behavior to get a clue from...

Hollywood_72,

My Falcon came with monokote covered wood blades only. The charger has a helpful charging lite and charge time, I believe, is quoted at 2 to 3 hours. It does come with the simulator cable, the freeware FMS simulator, and a FALCON 3D model for FMS .... looks good too.

Might I suggest, though, that if this is your first excursion into helicopters you consider another option. I started 2 months ago with a Honey Bee MK2 fixed pitch heli .... and it's been awsome. It's hard to break and easy to repair. So far I've hit the garage wall about 20 times, the door about 10, myself about 3 times, my kiddos twice and the wife once .... that one cost me ! Never even busted a blade (got some 1/4 inch gashes in it though) !

I'm guessing had I started with the Falcon I would probably be out at least $200+ in repairs instead of the $9 I've spent on the Honey Bee (landing struts and flybar), would have a fraction of the flying time I've got now, and would no doubt be discouraged about this whole helicopter business.

Don't get me wrong...the Falcon is the bees knees for an upgrade heli, but I would not have wanted it for my first heli...no way !

Gary & Choppersrule,

Hey guys ... hope you weren't offended by the 'old-timer' remark ! I had no idea you guys were hovering at the 59/60 mark...but hey, you're still off the ground, right ?

And here I thought I was the old-timer at 50.

No grandkids though ... unless my 6 year old is keeping secrets.

Hover??? Shoot I'm way past hover, but still not doing Alan Shazbo 3D just yet!
About your problem with your gyro JJT, try this, when you plug in your battery be sure the heli is sitting level on the ground and be very careful when you connect the plug that you don't move the heli. The gyro has to go through a startup and it's checking the neutral position of the rudder. If you move it while plugging the battery in, i.e., holding the heli in your hand and connecting the power it will fool the gyro into thinking everything is normal. Also be sure your throttle trim lever is all the way down, and the throttle is all the way down. Your gyro should flash several seconds then be steady red, this lets you know it's initialized correctly. If it's flashing DON"T FLY IT!!! Also don't move any controls on your transmitter til the light goes steady red. Hope this help!

Gary

Yes, this chart is misleading to say the least. The Blade is definately less stable then a T-REX in hover. Also, there should be a column for durability/parts costs. The Blade/Honeybee should be top of the list.

Cheers!

Bjett80,

No offense taken on the 'old-timer' remark, got to have fun.

I had four good flights yesterday, nothing great, but didn't crash. And that's a good thing.

Hope you guys still waiting for your Falcon, comes this week.
