Well I just flew mine with the smoke for the first time. I can tell you that it was awesome and the weight did not affect the way it flew at all. I have some changes to make in the mix for the smoke pump but I'll get that straightened out. The only down side I can tell is that you have to clean the plane afterwards. I had smoke oil all over the bottom of the plane. You also need to make sure your gap seal on elevator and rudder are very good and tight. My Elevator got smoke oil under the gap seal. I ripped off the gap seal and cleaned the surfrace for re gap seal. This time I am going to try and make it tight as possible. Any suggestions or is this just the downside to using smoke?

Thanks!!

accaptain,

Did you seal from top or bottom? On my 102" I sealed it from top with yellow ultra coat and it looks great. As far as smoke system goes, yeah you need to deal with the mess It will get in where ever it can. Check your coverings after few flights as well. You need to watch for everything the first 20-30 flights after that do it once in a while.

Thank you,

I sealed the elevator halves top and bottom and the rudder I only sealed one side. Ailerons I sealed top only. I will probably go ahead and seal both sides of everything tonight. I used clear so it is not noticeable. What I used is actually funny but it worked great on my WH. I used the 3M Blendrum tape like for the electrics to hinge there surfaces. I thought it was done pretty good but the smoke oil proved me wrong. Oh well guess I'll go back and try again. Over time the smoke oil seems like it would loosen the hinges, is this possible? I will keep an eye on everything Reza. I am going to get some video this weekend and post here. How many gallons do I need through the DA to start trusting it for some 3D stuff?

I'm not sure if it would loosen the hinges over time, I doubt it if you clean it up after each time you fly. If it gets in the wood it will certainly soften it over time. As far as your DA goes you can trust it from the first tank but you don't want to hover it first 3-4 gallons. I did 6 gallons of lawnboy on mine and then switched to Amsoil. Since I have been doing 3d most of the time I am mixing at 80:1 but I have seen it run fine on 100:1. One thing to remember that DO NOT mix under 80:1. You can cause other problems. Between 80:1 and 100:1 is fine. Looking forward to the video and yes with SMOKE

Wow! I just read about Bobzilla'a plane and it's loss on what should have been a fun day.

This is the reason that I got out of the hobby back in the 70s. With hundreds of hours into planes
and electronics, it was just too much heartache (and heartburn) when one goes down for unknown reasons.

I'm even a little hesitant with buying and equipping a nice ARF. It's a little easier to think about it with good manufacturers
and reps out there, and with internet support; I probably will give it another try.

I've got a vacation in Tucson the end of October. Will the manufacturers and reps be at the 'Shootout' with tents?

Hi Docvan,

I don't think we will have a tent but Quique will be competing and I think I will be there to observe as well. Please stop by if you get a chance. There is no way you can miss QQ but me sure you can.

Thank you,
Reza

Smoke it is!!! I love da smoke!

I ran 4 gallons through my DA50 in WH then went to 100:1 Amsoil. I was hovering it on the 3rd gallon of lawnboy and it never stumbled. I didn't touch the needles on this 100 yet. I fired it up and it sounded rich so I left it alone. I just didn't want to be trying harriers and slow knife edge passes until I was reassured the motor would be down for it.

As always, Thanks Reza!

Hi John,

It's good to hear from you . No unfortunately I won't be there. Honestly cost of traveling is high these days I can drive to AZ so I think I will make it out for TAS. Look forward to some videos from your plane. I'm glad you like it.

Thank you,
Reza

It looks like the GenII gear are quite a bit stiffer - no need to upgrade to graphtech immediately, which will save a few bucks

Hi Captain,

I started getting mine low after the first gallon.

Ive had about 5 gals through mine and its running brilliantly on 30:1. I'm due to switch to 50:1, or 80:1 on the next gallon.

As far as setting up the smoke goes mine was setup on a proportional throttle mix.

I decreased the volume of fluid being pumped into the cans until there was barely a drop in rpm with the smoke system on. I found that at this point almost all the oil was being burned and barely any left to coat the underside.

What smoke fluid are people using? I'm running the 3w strawberry fluid - expensive but its nice having the whole plane smell of strawberries in the car afterwards rather than petrol!!

I am just finishing my yak 85". Look forward to flying it and do some video.

I just wish that Quique himeself would do a video of the 85". I have seen the one of the 73" he just did and it was great. Not only it is a great video but also it is probably the best way to promote his own planes! I just dont understand why he hasn't done any yet as it is really in his own interest. No better marketing tool. Surely he can spare some time at the field with the plane and someone filming with the video camera. Please do it! We would all appreciate it...

Buenos vuelos a todos

Fernando

Fernando,

I promise you that we will do it for the new QQYak 86". The 85" is no longer in production.

Thank you,
Reza
