According to the authority on all things airworthy (Model Airplane News) the YAT-28E pictured was destroyed when tail flutter caused a crash during an early flight. They also provided detailed 3v drawings.

Did a quick check at the Air force museum site and could not come up with anything on the YAT-28. I know i have seen this plane before though.

hallo DRdoom,

The yellow Trojan is an early Design from Dave Platt. Span. about 170cm Eng.10ccm
The Model has very good Scale outline and flyes very well.
The Plan Set was sometimes offered on ebay.com.
I`m looking forward to see Johnnyo`s T-28 and hope it flyes as well as the Ironbay Trojan.

Gruß , Franz

Beautiful models franz. I have to say that i like the older versions better, just more rugged looking. Is your platt, the one from the 1966 plans he put out, the ones that are available from rcm magazine. I have a great planes kit that was based around these plans, i am going to put the plans to use to make a more scale canopy and flight controls. anyways, beautiful work man. nick

hallo pantherflyr,

you are right, the trojan is scale 1:7.,2 an not the same as the pica model.
i do not know, if RCMM offered the plan set. the designer was dave platt.
i think we talk about the same model.

Guys, two of the YAT28s still exist. the first model was lost in a crash. A company in
CA has the other two less engines. They are contimplating restoring to flight status.
I am sorry i can not recall the name of the company that has these two units. They were purchased surplus some time ago.

Just got my exhaust system back, and looks pretty good, and very solid. Fired up the engine to check the noise level since this is a pretty straight forward exhaust, (no mufflers) to my surprise, noise level was not to bad. Presently going through everything, getting ready for balancing and test flights. I will post pics of the exhaust etc this weekend.

I promised a few more pics of the exhaust etc. So here they are. I think I'm looking for things to do, now that it is close to the test flight. Any ideas on the cowl flaps, should I leave them set at a predetermined opening, make them adjustable, or activate with a servo with or without the throttle.
comments welcome

Grub, thanks for the info. Is you T28 the Byron? Looks like about a 1/5 scale. are your cowl flap hinged in one location, or two hinges somewhat close together? I'm working out the hinging right now, The full scale used two hinges pretty close together, However if you did with one and seems to be strong enough, I may go that direction. Have you more photos or sketchs of the servo activation you are planning. Unfortunately, I am out of channels, however I could Y harness into the throttle. I use a JR 9303.
Thanks

Frank, in addition to the excellent scale kit from Dave, you may want to look at the new 1/7 arf offered by the company that bought out PICA. Unfortunatly I can't recall the name off hand, but someone on this forum should know.
