It seems we associate our Club Insurance only with AMA Charter Club status. Right now I am looking at chartering the club with United Modelers, dropping AMA charter, yet requiring all members to maintain individual AMA membership.

1. The individual is covered and those around him protected for whatever as they do their daily normal flying routine.

2. Eliminate all AMA Sanctions and go with club UMA as all event advertising is done through club mailings and local area handouts.

3. The result is the club is no longer totally tied to the what I consider as totally over-restrictive Safety Code restrictions on certain events/activities especially Racing. There are almost no facilities where Racing can be accomplished under the distances required in rule-book racing.

4. AMA no longer holds that tight SC rein over the daily activity.

needed?

RC Combat is nearly as ridiculous.
(IMO the objective is to make Pylon and Combat beyond the ability of enough
clubs to host, therefore the activity will die)
While there is supposedly a system for waivers, why does a rule need be made
where a club must constantly request waivers. YUCK!

4. AMA can no longer hold that tight SC rein over the daily or event
activity.

PS: BTW, my club just received its notice of Gold Leader. It can do AMA's
bidding, but some feel AMA bids a bit too much.

Horrace,

The quote from you is from a different source, but accurate and in it's entirety.

Maybe I am missing something. If I read your post correctly, you are thinking about chartering with UMA. Maybe I need to be educated about UMA. Now, I am not an expert on the UMA, but, as I understand it that means:

1. Each of your members will be required to pay AMA dues of $48 and UMA dues of $38, so they can race pylon or engage in RC combat.

2. The landlord will have no coverage.

3. The club will have no coverage.

4. The club officers will have $1,000,000 coverage.

If I read the UMA coverage correctly, the net effect is to eliminate the coverage of the landlord, eliminate coverage for the club and approximately double the fees paid by members to modeling organizations. Sounds good to me.

Horrace, are you suffering from a case of sour grapes?

And then tell the visiting AMA members to his contests that they can ignore the AMA Safety Code when they fly at his events!

Sure!

Bill,
Even though his actions take 'sour grapes' to a new level, what is wrong with him doing exactly what you suggested? It sure sounds to me like that is precisely what he wants to do. Although Horrace has taken a bad approach, his actions and comments do highlight the growth of the AMA Safety Code from one page of yesteryear to the small booklet of today. I think he implies a valid point even if I dislike the style and approach being used.

Sorry Horrace, but I think JR gave you all the reasons you should need to avoid taking action to become a UMA club. You might consider telling the world why you have it in for the AMA badly enough to suggest actions that might end up with negative results for some (land owner et al). I surely do not understand it, but I already know what you will say about my ability to think.

Cheers!
