1mm of carb barrel opening is just righ, it might require a little less or more (doubtful) each engine is very unique, make sure your clutch bearings arent bad and make sure that the clutch springs arent loose and dragging causing it to spin the gears, also, you could have your low speed needle a little too lean, but never sacrifice tuning for the car to sit still, good luck

Either you clutch it melted or the spring is snapped or come loose. OR your idle is to high. Using the throttle servo is a bad to set your idle. I am not familiar with the HPI engines but i know there is a idle screw on there. The idle should be at the most 1 1/2 MM's open.

so when i start the car, the transmitter should be turned off so i can manually set the carb to 1/4 open, then once she is started THATS WHEN i turn on the transmitter to get the carb back to 1.5mm on idle?

is that right?

ALWAYS i repeat ALWAYS start the car with the transmitter (tx) and receiver (rx) turned on, and 1/4th open is too much, the hpi manual says something similar to that, dont do it, 1.5mm should be enough, there should be a black screw on the front that takes an allen wrench, adjust that

i guess u could always increase the throttle trim to increase the carb opening to help start the car then reduce the trim once started and warmed up.

on my mx-3 it has the throttle adjustment, and when i am starting or warming it up i always set it really high, it actually helps a fair amount
