Hello,
I have been in this hobby since the early 70's and vaguely rememmber fai pylon I think.first question is was there/is there fai pylon racing?I have an old fiberglass fuselage with a plan inside that says FAI P-51B made by Francis products in california.the airfoil looks to be a thin racing airfoil.I also have a pattern kit from the same company that is called the pirate and it use a quite thicker symetrical airfoil typical of pattern planes of the early 70's.see picture of the p-51b plan.just looking for imformation as to whether this is a pylon type airplane.Thanks.

I think it's a QM40 qaurter miget 40 set up. I'm not sure if they do FAI anymore wich to my knowlege is no nitro fuel among other perameters. I haven't seen that since the mid 90's, I'm sure someone still does it somewere. I've alway stuck to QM40 and Q500

Aerowoof,

Yup, that's an FAI racer. Pretty useless now except as a collector's item or a high-performance sport plane. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but the only FAI (F3D) racing in North America these days is the biennial team trial and sometimes a half-day at the Nats. Plus, if you did want to compete in F3D, there are more competitive designs available. But it's a cool-looking model & it would fly well.

Hi!
It seems to be an old 1970 design due mainly to the ancient thick airfoil and short wingspan.
Todays FAI racers have a span of up to 180cm (look ridiculous too me).
...Wish they went back to at least some scale parameters again...
