hey i was wondering if anyone has seen or heard of the Great Planes Reactor GP/EP 3D ARF .46-.70. They are now showing a picture of it on tower. Looks pretty neat, and will have to see it when it comes out in late july. Lets make this the official post for this plane.

Ohhh.......like the looks. Filton has one comming, now GP. I like the direction. I got money, says the Filton comes out lighter then the GP.

This is interesting because the GP reps were flying a smaller electric version of the Reactor at their own E-fest held in Champaign this past winter. This was supposed to be a mid summer release also.

Looks like this might be a transition from a U Can do into something more like a showtime? Might have to get one of these when they come out - I have a saito 72 collecting dust right now.

Now showing it will be available in October with a pricing of $189. But that price could be off, since the link has been pulled, and you can't even search Tower and find the listing at this time.

I'm still interested in this - looking at the pic and judging the wing tube size, and wheel size, and size of the fueltank - this looks to be a lot bigger than a .46 (2c)/.70 (4c) size plane. Wondering if it's more like a 70" wing to compete with the Showtime or funtana 90/100.

looks like Tower changed the ad again - although the product still isn't searchable on thier website by the product or stock numbers - here's the assembled shot.

From this pic, I have a hard time seeing this as a .46 powered airframe, but could be my eyes playing tricks on me.

It kinda resembles the World Models Groovy 3D .50

The airplane was designed by GP engineers to fly on a 2 stroke .46-.50 a 4 stroke .70....or E-Power.

Tower now shows the Reactor as being in stock.

I plan on buying one of these once the OS 55 AX comes back in stock. Has anyone got any feedback on the Reactor?

Hi everyone im also planning on buying this model and using an os50sx. Will it be enough power for hovering? Also the model requires expensive mini servos like the futaba s9650, does anyone know of a cheaper analogue alternative?

Hitec HS225 (nylon gear) mini for $21, or HS225MG (metal gear) for $28 at http://www.servocity.com/html/hitec_servos.html

Tower sells them for roughly the same price, but you get a slight price break on each quantity of 3 that you order. .85 - $1.00 off each.

*edit - didn't notice you were down under - might be best for you to try to source them locally eh?

I just ordered a Reactor last night. I have a NIB YS 63S waiting for it. However, it will be a while before I get to it. I still have a EF Edge 540 profile and a PA Electric Shock ahead of it.

I'll be watching to read the first reports as they start to roll in.

i think the std servos will be ok on a 50os max(heli) for mine, has anyone have a video of it yet?

well, it's not that people are not wanting put standard servos in the plane, it's that they won't fit. The planes servo openings and locations are designed for mini-sized servos. To install standard sized servos, you'll have to do some cutting and re-engineering of the kit.

if I had to guess - the tower cs35mg is the hitec 225mg relabeled. Most of the Hobbico servos are relabeled versions of Hitec servos. Many of the Tower servos are relabeled Futaba servos. Same with the Hobbico and Tower receivers - they are all relabeled Futaba units. The Hobbicos are really good values there because they include a crystal for less than the Futaba rx costs alone.

It's within the recommeded range so I suspect it would do fine with the .70.....unless you insist on explosive rocket ship power. I'm sure, however, someone will come along and shoehorn a Saito 100 in there, which actually sounds like it would be a lot of fun.

Mark, thanks for the detailed post. Mine is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, so it will be nice to have something to compare to. Do you know off the top of your head what the OS 70 weighs? I'll probably go with the same or similar servos as you, so the engine weight will likely be the biggest difference. Are you starting the assembly immediately? I'm trying to clear off my very small work bench now (well, not RIGHT now

), so I won't be doing much to mine in the near future.

I dont have the OS 70 yet, OS web site says 20.5oz. I'm going into my work week, wont get much done for a few days at least.

WOW!!!! My Reactor was just delivered here to my office! Check out what was in the box!

I'm a big Trek fan, but I don't want a plastic model of Jimmy T's ride. Don't you just love the corporate machine that is Tower Hobbies? In their defense, they apologized profusely and are sending out the Reactor today. I suspect that the holiday rush is causing them to make more mistakes than usual.

Sooooo.......anybody want a plastic Kirk-mobile?

Just kidding, of course, they emailed me a UPS shipping label to send it back to them. According to the TH website, this thing cost $39. It's been a while since I built plastic models, but I had no idea they had gotten this expensive.

Mark, it looks like it will be up to you to keep this thread going for the time being. I probably won't get mine until late this week or early next week.
