RobertC -> RE: Great Planes Reactor GP/EP 3D ARF .46-.70 (1/11/2007 10:38:00 PM)

No problem at all, Erik! I am more than happy to help... Tank: I used the "stock" tank here and in the past on my UCanDo .60 with a YS .91 in it. Never had a problem with that tank (well, ok, the stopper *did* leak once when it had been sitting for a few months... my fault, the bolt had untightened) and I don't expect a problem with this one. Some have recommended that you wrap the tank with strapping-tape to prevent a rupture. I didn't, but I guess that it can't hurt if you have some on hand. As an aside, you will *love* the YS! Don't believe all the horror-stories you read about tuning... it's not that hard. Cowl: I did mount my YS right at the end of the supplied GP mount (like you did in your build-thread), but I didn't worry about getting it to be *exactly* the right distance. Besides, I will likely want to move the C.G. rearward and the further out the engine is mounted the harder it will be to do this. I also want to keep the weight down to a minimum and adding anything adds weight (ok, I'm pretty sure that a plywood spacer will not make a big difference)! As for making sure that the painted portion of the cowl lines-up with the fuselage, just make sure that you "pull" the cowling towards the bottom of the plane when mounting (in other words, it should be nice and tight on the upper <curved> area of the fuselage).
