I'd go with the Saito 82. I've had a few of these engines in the past and they are reliable, easy to start and maintain, and lots of power. APC 14X4W will be my prop of choice.

I got my engine installed.... MAN what a hack job!..... nOW I know why everyone hase either a 4-stroke or a rear-mouned needle adjustable carb.... I was horrified at how much I had to cut out!.... I could have put in a 91 4-stroke, but I wanted to keep the weight down....
Complaints: I was really shocked at how horrible this covering is............. The clear covering rips off and leaves the color!!!! 1st sprayed it down with topflite clear cote.... - NOt good enough.... then got out my automotive clear cote, mixed it up, and put it on with a paint sponge..... paying particular attention around the seams and where the colors edges are...
Also the hardware.......... If you attempt to follow the advice in the manual placing the control horns on the elevators with proper allingment, would mean hang half the control arm off the surface! They are just not big enough.... I used my h9 control horns and worked out great....
Hoverlow..... You still not liking the engines? forget these small planes..... Order up a 50cc plane, stick a 50cc engine in it, put a ES composite tuned pipe on it and call it a done deal.... If you just want to hover, get a Helicopter!!!!!![)] Planes are good for much more than that!!!!

kochj, it's very bad to hear about your covering dilema. Great Planes has a problem with that. Well, the idea of to get a 50cc size plane is also in my mind. The problem is the big amout of money lost at each crash. :-) Anyway, I don't want a plane just to hover, but I have to confess that I can't fly a plane underpowered anymore! And you can't take from the planes like Reactor all its are done for if you have a bad engine.
A 3D plane with a week engine is like nothing to me, even without hover all the time. Just my opinion.

Hoverlow, I was just kidding..... Did you loose you funtana100X? sad to hear it.....
I did some tests with my ST .51 on a tuned pipe...... I didn't like my results with the props I had around......the 11X7 had too much lag..... I grabed a 10X6 APC (that was badly out of balance and nicked up) using: 10% Nitro and the engine is brand new.... couple tanks......
14,360 rpms.... WOW.... I was used to the gassers, only hiting around 6500 rpms...... I then tried 15% Nitro..... 14,700 and the plane was shaking soo bad I was worried it was going to fall apart.... It hit around 14,470 from then on...... I didn't want to wreck everything........... I know that these numbers are not earth shatering, but I will try out a 11X4 and 10X4 APC props next..... I will dynamic balance these and they try them out..... I know that balancing is huge when dealing with engine performance....
I was happy with this so far...... THe exhuast note sounds soooo nasty mad with that unmuffled TUned pipe..... The transition was really good with the 10x6 prop, but I want to try the other 2-out.
I know that most use 4-strokes but this is runing on 10% nitro and seems to sip the fuel with the pipe. Looks promising as I hope that this works well with this plane..... If it doesn't I will switch for a .91 4-stroke..... I know that there are lighter ones.... but GP recomends the .70 4-stroke and it is the same weight as the .91 4-stroke soooo why not????

I finished my Reactor today and set the CG at 5" for the maiden with the receiver and battery pack at the back half of the canopy. I think using the HS-635HB standard servos all around saved me from adding any extra weight to get the CG. Just need to run a few tanks of fuel through the Saito 82 and it's off to the field for some air time. It's raining today and it doesn't look good for the rest of the week and the weekend .

Good job relocating the throttle servo. I also moved my thro. servo aft (into the cockpit) and also moved the fuel tank back under the LG plate.
Why add weight when we can move components!

Your comments are all smart, and you are right when you said me to try 50cc planes. This will help me to avoid all my engine problems!
Good to read about your tests too. Do you are using Super Tigre engines in your 3d planes with good results? O never tried one of those engines. I had a ST a long time ago and I loved it. But now I don't have any references about it.
My Funtana is still alive... yet... Let's see how many time it will keep going!!!
Zippi, good work!!! I was seeing the pictures in your profile. You have really nice planes and you live in a beautiful place!!!

I've had a plane or two in my time and I think I'm getting a little burt out on all the flavors of Extra's, and the YAK 54's, thats why I bought the Reactor just to have something different. I flew Patten planes years ago so I'm looking for something different. I have never had a Warbird so maybe something in the 36cc size would be nice. KMP has a nice F8F Bearcat .

Must say though... I was a little botherd by the fact that GP calls for mini servos in this plane, and when I tried to place them in the back of the fuse, the holes were TOO big for mini servos, and too small for regular servos!!!!!!!!! I had the tower TS-35mg and the Hobbico CS-12... Anyone else run into this..???
I did a mock balance and found it to be nose heavy??? what???/ well I could balance out using standard sevos in the tail...... Balanced it on the wingtube (3 3/4 inch) I then checked my landing gear!....oooops .... I had them reversed! That was what was giving me balancing fits!!!LOL
Hoverlow... The only glow 3-D plane I have had was the funtana 100X (I even tried to place a gas engine in that plane) . The other planes are all gassers and giant scale.. . (hard to believe that one myself)
I had a ST .51 in a .46 size mustang w/pipe and it hauled the mail.... That thing was crazy fast.... I have a ST .91 that I had placed in a Piper Cub for a very short while; It was later replaced with a magnum .91 4-stroke... Obviously this is different, in that this plane needs low end muscle, not speed.
I think that they are good engines... I think that they actually have better tooling and casting now that the company was moved to China, then when they were made in Italy...............
I think that they are a great bargin.....I unfortunatly have not had one run long enough to compare it to a O.S. engine..... I do believe though, that the OS 2-stroke engines are made to a higher precision and run sooooo reliably that they are hard to top.... I am happy with the ST so far/// I will let you know how it goes when I finish this plane and get some flights in...
