I recently recieved my order from hobby lobby of their microjet. Im considering tossing the permax 400 6v motor and replacing it with a spare eflite park 400 brushless and Im looking for some feedback on this idea. With this motor in the plane , a thunderbird 18 amp esc , 2 cell lipo and reciever and servos it has a rtf weight of just 13 ounces. Down 1.5 ounces without the stock motor. So anyone this this is a good combo?? Thanks

Hi Psikelly,

i have the Park 400 on my Micro Jet with a Castle Creations PHX 25 amp ESC . I am spinning a 4.75 x 4.75 APC prop I cut down to a 4.25 x 4.75. I am getting way too much heat right now but will try a lower pitch prop latter today. I did clock the Micro Jet at 88 Mph with this prop but not without a price. It overheated the motor and melted the mount on top of burning up the motor itself. I have purchsed an E-Flite Power Meter (EFLA110) and will start cutting down props until I find the right fit. I will try and post the info once I have found the sweet spot.

The MJ is a lovely flying plane, I never flown it with the stck motor but I guess it will do about 40 mph only giving a lot of fun as its such a smooth plane to fly. I am on No. 4 now and I went through 3 set ups:

ZAGI Tazz 10 turn motor with CC25 and El Cheapo Chinese made 30A ESC

Its a 400 sized brushless of about 2,800 KV. Just about right, its fast enought to enjoy but not to a point where you are not able to relax. I used the Gunther 5x5 prop (23,000 RPM), it was the best, better than APC or Graupner CAM props. I think the plane was doing about 70 mph. Was nice to fly.

Feigao 3,600 KV motor, HiModel 60A ESC

This is a 400 sized motor but about just under 1/2" longer and its heavy. I used an APC 4.7x4.25 (30,000 RPM). Its superbly fast but the AUW was a lot more, I needed bigger batteries as I was pulling about 36A or so ... I believe the plane was touching 100 mph. Problem was my GWS Naro servos were not good enough. It was all about speed and nothing else.

Align 2,800 KV outrunner, El Cheapo Chinese 30A ESC

Very nice set up, the motor is really light and my FP 1,800 batts were starting to warm up only. I used the APC 4.7x4.25 getting about 22,000 RPM. It flies 'slow' compared with the Feigao but the plane is much more fun to fly.

With your 2S set up it will not be fast but I bet you can easily hand launch the plane, I need a bungee.

I run on a 3cell 2100. I am going to set it up with new E-flite Six series motor and try again. I burnt up the Park 400.

Which Align motor and ESC are you using?

I think some have flown it and commented that its slow. What I will say is go for the new ALIGN 2,800 KV outrunner, its super light (not to forget cheap) and is an outrunner in a can so you need not make any mods to attach it. The motor is light, you can turn a 4.75x4.75 at about 22,000 RPM which is fast enough to have fun. You only need to run a 1,500 mAh battery of 20C with some El Cheapo China made 30A ESC. Light set up for a lot of fun!

I am on No. 5 now and she will be set up with the Align motor and painting it like the new GP EDF Miglet!

Hey Guys,

I put a Mega Motor 16/15/4 Brushless In-Runner with a 30 amp Jeti Advance Pluce ESC, 5 x 5 APC E Prop and 1800 3 cell PolyQuest in my Micro-Jet. The Performance is excellent. I'm hitting at least 120 mph at full throttle and the roll rate is a blur. I'm using the Hitec Micro 05S receiver and 2 HS-65 servos. If you use a similar setup you will need to either hold a touch of up elevator for launching or setup a "Launch Mode" on your transmitter with up elevator for launching and neutral for normal flight.

Chris ... 120 mph ... hmmm ... sure this is not a marketing ploy? Hey I am just kidding! I think the HS65s are a much better choice than my GWS Naros, I flew it on my hot hot set up and the elevators were not not responding well. What sort of RPMs were you getting with the 5x5 prop? I am now waiting for my new one to be painted like the GP Miglet. I will keep to a simple set up using my Align 2,800 KV outrunner. With that setup I think I am only touching 60 mph max on level flight.

Just bought the FunJet too ... how does it fly compared with the MJ?
