It seems that if I tighten the set screws(near the head) that hold on the flybar rod then I can still move the rod if I try to rotate the paddles. So I tighten them a little more and then they strip. I have gone through two of the plastic pieces that hold the flybar because of this(Have to order more now). Is the flybar not very important as far as being very tight because it does not get as much stress during flight? Once I get that figured out should I also use blue locktight on them?

BTW... Someone should create a build/repair forum for Helicopters .

I would suggest either buying the aluminum upgrade version, or the upgraded plastic version. Theres new flybar sets available for the MX400 that use small aluminum inserts inside where the screw goes so you're going into metal instead of plastic. That will allow you tighten them quite a bit before you strip. I had the same problem with the original plastic part on my X-400.

You don't need loc-tite when screwing into plastic, but any metal to metal contact, you should use loc-tite.

Thanks for the info. I have the MX400 Pro which has little aluminum inserts on the seesaw where the flybar goes through but it still seems that the set screws strip very easily(before getting very tight). I was thinking about upgrading the seesaw to aluminum but was afraid that in doing so might require more things to get upgraded to aluminum. Since this is screwing into aluminum I guess that means that locktite is required.

I hope I have the correct name(seesaw) for the part that secures the flybar down with 2 set screws.

Now I am trying to brain storm trying to figure out how to re-use the stripped seesaws(CA glue, or tap'ing it for a size bigger maybe?). I will be down for a week waiting for the a replacement part if I dont figure it out .

If you're stripping the metal inserts then you're probably over-tightening them, or maybe you just got duds? I was able to tighten mine quite a bit without problems. I'm using the aluminum upgrade now and it also works quite well. I'm not entirely certain if the seesaw will work with the stock plastic parts. I don't have the originals here to test it. Maybe someone else will know.

Are you sure it's the metal inserts stripping and not your actual grub screws that might have worn out treads?

Thanks again for the info.

I think the part I am refering to that has the set screws is called the stabalizer (rectangle shaped piece). I will definitely be more careful next time and not over tighten them. Seems strange how easily it is to strip though. The parts I used were leftover from a grab bag of parts that came with this used MX 400 Pro that I bought so it is possible they were both bad but I did look at the threads and they looked OK before installing. For now I put a drop or two of CA into the set screw holes, tightened the screws the best I could, and CA'd the two outside points where the outside of the stabalizer meets the flybar. It seems to be holding better than the set screws(before I stripped them). I will need to replace them all anyway next time I crash .
