Hi everybody,

Last saturday i crashed my yak 85 (electric problem on battery switch) and i'm building the new motorbox and i need a size (as describe below on the picture).
I'm not sure the distances are the same on the left and on the right for the firewall.

Thanks in advance

Bart

Could not understand your sketch, but the firewall is 135mm from the circular bulkhead on the right hand side and 142mm from the left, the box itself is 108mm deep x 142 wide, these are the dims on my model hopefully should be the same on all of them. BTW the dims for the distance to the bulkhead are to the front of the tennon joint and does not include the extension of the box beyond this joint which is another 6mm.
Detail the re-build I am sure most will be interested.
Hope this helps

Mike

Bart,

Sorry to hear about what happened to your plane. I couldn't help you with the dimension. I was doing a 6 ft or maybe lower slow rolling harrier and engine died on me. As result, don't have any firewall left to get you dimensionL . I'm glad Mike helped you out.

Get her fixed and post some pics of the repair if you could.

Thank you,
Reza

So repairation is finished and the yak flew this morning, everything is fine.
So here some pictures of the reparation, it wasn't very hard to repair... I added a length on the top to put my batteries.
About the landing gear, QQ was out of stock, so I restuck it with carbon and it is very strong. We created a cowl master and did another one but the weight is little bit too heavy (original cowl is 240gr and mine is 400gr)...

Bart,

Very very nice and clean job! One thing I'd like to ask you to check after every 10-20 flights or so, is to make sure that glue is still holding up. I mean between the old frame and new box that you made. Where you are showing in your picture. It has happened to me that under vibration and heat the glue statrted coming undone!

Thank you for sharing this with us and I hope everything goes fine.

Reza

Bart,

I'd be fitting a few screws, nuts and washers through the remains of the old box and new box. Might pay to use a little loctite on them too. It will give you that little bit of extra insurance for a little weight gain. Would be nasty to have an engine come loose mid flight. It would most likely shake the hell out of your airframe.

I would have repaired the old cowl too.. Of late I've become quite an expert at repairing wheel pants and cowls.. lol. Fortunately I haven't had to do it for a little while...

Cheers
Jason.

Jason,

I agree with your suggestions 100%. Loctite may not be necessary only because he needs to use wood screws but bolting it, is right on the money. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.

No worries Reza,

Was only thinking of nuts and washers & loctite because of the vibration up front. If using wood screws you'd probably want to CA them in.

Cheers
Jason.
