i fly a comp arf extra, and it really is one of the best(that i had) in ke, i "fly out" the little coupling it has, and i do like going slow and fast in ke, the more rudder the more it wants to couple out, and the slower i go, the more rudder it needs...

WOW, Mike, you really summed up some great qualities that Kyle has. We are so fortunate to have him right here in the NW with us. Late in the summer he showed up at one of our local fields with that big Carden Extra and put on an incredible show. It almost made elegant music flow forth when there weren't even any speakers set up. I think he and John Wondra headed to AZ shortly after that. They both did great at that shootout as you know. And they are both 17 or so and friends. As I was standing right next to Kyle on the flightline, he brought that big Extra right toward us in a slow KE and I about messed my pants and was thanking God that it was him on the sticks and not me at that moment. LOL! And just think, a couple of years ago he was flying a trainer with an LA 40 on it. Oh, that day at the field he flew my Ultra Stick 40/Saito 82 that has the worst KE coupling I have ever seen in my life.... you can guess the rest.

Take a look at the videos on DOD of Kyle flying the WH Extra. He does a inverted harrier right up to himself, stops it right in close, so close you can touch it, then he holds it there. And what really impresses me the most whenever I see him fly is he is just so smooth no matter what plane he has, which is what makes him so great.

I agree, he is setting a standard that a lot of pilots are gonna have trouble matching. The guy is just that good....If you watch those videos, take note on one of them he flies a AW Yak after Joe Hunt flies the same plane, take note of how much Joe is working to handle the plane then take note of how little Kyle is working to do the same things and Joe has been flying a lot longer than Kyle

Yep, I was right there standing within arms length of him during the shooting of most of those videos last month. I feel very fortunate to have stood right there next to him several times over the course of that weekend and experience what total control and confidence looks and feels like up close.. He was so in control he would bring the plane in right at us from about any attitude you can think of and I KNEW he had it.. I never even flinched!! Unbelievable!

It actually reduced my fear of having the plane in close while I am flying as well... Just doing it is half the battle.

Mike,

I was wondering if that was you along side him and Joe in the second part of the Extra video or was it the first part. You could easily see that not one of you guys even thought about leaving the area when he brought it in that close. To be honest, I've seen videos where people try that and my first thoughts were to tell them to get out of the way, I never once thought that watching hum do that. If I could only be that smooth...

His KE pullouts are a thing of beauty to watch. I love it when he gets a small amount of altitude, plants it into the KE and powers away all in basically one smooth and deliberate maneuver and what's even better he's very consistent about the angle of the KE no matter what direction

Joe actually summed it up very well while we were standing there watching Kyle fly. Its all about time, In his(Kyle's) mind he has all the time in the world..

Watching him in close it feels like slow motion. When I am on the sticks and getting in that close with a big plane everything feels like it is moving so fast.. Kyle never "appears" to feel rushed.

Mike,

You can see the confidence just ozing from him and in a lot of pics he has the nice looking ladies hanging around. Joe has a pic that says something along the line "Chicks really dig aliens" and it's a pic of the his gorgeous models hanging aound him while he's flying or is it while he was at your field, I forget....Dang C.R.S is bad today

Dave,

The first two videos are now uploaded and I'm uploading the one where both Joe and Kyle are fling the same AW Yak. Not that Joe is a bad pilot, he's quite an excellent pilot and a great guy but you can see in the video how he works hard at hovering the Yak where Kyle is smoth as silk.

I'm thinking Kyle sleeps with his radio

Let me tell you something dont let anyone tell you different.. relatively speaking Joe is a really REALLY good 3D pilot... But when he (or most anyone else) is flying beside Kyle it diminishes the perception of their skill level.. Joe is really really good,,, that son of a gun did some amazing stuff over the pond with that Big Old 37.5% 3W Yak and in EXTREMELY tight quarters.. But you could definitely see the difference... When Kyle hovers, the plane does not move,, not a flitch whatsoever. It looks like a plumb bob hanging on a string. He did some georgeous multi point torque rolls over the water that just took my breath away.. Again he is in total control..

Kyle and I were sitting by the water shooting the bull and watching Joe fly the 75CC Yak and he could not stand it...Joe was slinging water around with the rudder and he would not let him have all the fun so he jumped up off the levee and walked over and took the Tx, thats when he immediately did that high alpha knife edge pass and drug the horizontal stab through the water. .

The 3 girls in the Blue shirts are 2 of my friends wives (hotties

) and Kyles girlfriend (also a little cutie and very sweet). That is in Texas.. We did not have bikini models in Texas,, we did not feel it was appropriate.

Don't get me wrong, I'm well aware of Joe's skills and if I sounded like I was putting him down, that was not the intention. You said it best, next to Kyle, most people are gonna look like they need to work a bit more.

why does everyone think kyle is superhuman? as far as i see, he is a young guy who spent a lot of time on the simulator and flying at the field. he pays attention to the airplane. thats all.

i am way more amazed by kyles artistry and choice of manuever than i am by his straight skills. many people seem to have the same ability of control he has, but when it comes to really moving the people watching, he is one of the best.

as i learned to fly i was lucky enough to have his videos to help me understand the different things you can do. i am very glad to have had that influence.

bottom line: we can all reach that level. he did it by practicing.. we can do it by practicing. i mean at least 1 hour a day, or 2 if you need it. a lot of people do not want to do that sort of thing, but then are amazed by the people who do. i just think its silly.
