I was given a 9.6v charger for nicd and nimh batteries, and want to know if I can charge a 7.2v batt pack with it safely if I change the plug ends to match the packs. If so do I need to put a volt meter on it for monitoring or will the pack blow?

The voltage will probably be fine, and you may need to measure the current so you know how long to charge , right?
