Hello,

I have just started to setup separates on my Walkera DF4 (since the 4-1 burned up) and I am wondering if anyone has experience in setting up the Eclipse 7 with a rate gyro and tail motor or if anyone could point me to some good articles/threads. I have some problems with yaw stability.

Hi there,

First of all I am also only setting up my DF36 at this stage, but I can tell you what I have learned on setting up my Eclipse with the Telebee Dual rate Gyro.

1) If you are in HH mode do not use any revolution mixing, let the Gyro handle it.
2) I had problems getting channel 5 to set the remote gain on the Gyro, I had to buy another reciever (JR610M) to get that working.
3) Remember the EPA on channel 4 does not actually set your EPA it rather sets your yaw rate of the heli. This is because you plug the Gyro into channel 4.

Just my two cents worth

Regards

Nic

you don't mention what type of gyro/esc are you using for your tail(other than rate type)?as this will affect how you do your setup.
If you have a pg-03(02 or the like gyro)than you need to set your revo mix on the radio for each point to maintain torque compensation.this can be a slow and tedious process, but once set the tail will hold true from full charge to empty.the gyro than helps to compensate for wind/abrupt direction changes, but you still need to "fly the tail"
If you are using a pha-01(300 or 3in1 type mixer w/ rate gyro onboard) turn off your revo on the radio and use the mixing pot on the unit.

Hi,

Yesterday I tried the helicopter outside, which ended with a broken landing gear. The helicopter was far too unstabile in the yaw axis. I decided to build a turning test table for setting up the heli so I assebled one of two sheets of plywood and an old GWS gearbox. I´ll attach some pics of the table.
I have now tested the heli and I can´t get the settings right.. It seems like I would need more adjustment points on the rvmx curve to get it steady. Is there any way of using the pitch curve or throttle curve for tail motor fine adjustment or is there any other way of fine tuning the helis yaw movement at different rpm:s?
Does anyone know what kind of mixer Walkeras 4-1 (for DF4) use? It worked really well for me until it melted.

This is my setup:

Hitec Eclipse 7
Jeti 5 channel reciever
Schulze 10/15 A controller for the main motor
GWS ICS 100 (5A) controller for the tail motor
MS-024 gyro
GWS 300 main motor
Original tail motor

For the Hitec Eclipse 7 using rate gyro, you can program the Rev mix for about +85% with the throttle off and ~35% with full throttle in the normal mode. You can keep the PCV and TCV at factory default.

If you use HH gyro, leave the Rev mix off (0%)

You have the right idea going wez.when on the turn table set your throtle to half and set your trim to maintain the tail.go to a point between full throtle and 3/4 throtle (between point 4&5 on your throtle)set your upper revo mix percent.go to a point between 0 throtle and 1/4 throtle(between point 1&2 on your throtle)set your lower revo mix percent.

"now for the fun part,I don't have an eclpise radio so I'm not sure how to do the programing part or if its possible with this radio."
ADD EDIT found a post here that addresses your question and answers mine.It will do this mix, only you don't use the revo http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=274920

using your expo and doing a split adjustment increase or decrease the expo to flatten out the response between upper 1/2 stick to full throtle to hold the tail. than do the same on the lower 1/2 stick travel.
with a 3 point revo it's impossible to get a perfect tail, once set up on the table you it should be close enough to get you to hover with some rudder stick to control the tail.than you have to tweek as you fly,but don't make large changes.go 2-3 point changes at the most.if the point you need to adj is in the middle of the points adj. earlier change the expo, not the revo

another way to do this that I have read(I haven't tried this personaly and can guess this takes some time and lots of fiddling with the settings),try to lift off but only to the center throw and adj. your rudder trim to maintain the tail.bring your throtle to the point earler stated just under full throtle and note the rotation of the body and adj your upper revo to maintain the tail, than set your lower revo mix to maintain.

Thank you for your replies!
After hours on the turntable, my Walkera is finally flyable again. The weather has of course been windy ever since I got it ready but I have tested it inside and it seems to be possible to fly.
Smart idea with the expo settings... I´ll check if it´s working with the Eclipse!
Today I also cut my main rotor blades to 32mm and that seemed to stabilize the helicopter a bit. The main motor is also running much cooler now. Now I only have to wait for a calm day...
