Manufacturer horsepower ratings in model engines are about as usefull as utters on a bullfrog. Every one of them is garbage and you can not go by what is printed by the manufacturers or distributers when it comes to hp. I have seen on several occasions in the race to capture customers, the ratings change as competition changes but the engines do not change. For example, I saw one distributers website advertise 1.2 hp for a particular engine and then a month later the exact same engine was rated much higher because a competing company came out with an engine in the same class with similar hp rating. Its all marketing garbage. If you want a true hp figure then read what David Gierke publishes in the engine reviews of the rc car magazines, he has a proven dyno that works for these engines and he runs them all with the same procedures so the results can be compared becauise they are accurate and truthfull. I have loots of engines, a couple of them come to mind about power ratings; I have a popular 50 size japaneese engine and a popular european 49 size engine that will run circiles around the 50 on every prop tested, same fuel, same day. Funny part is the popular japaneese 50 has a much higher hp rating than the european one. The european engine obviously has more horsepower and torque but is rated lower, why? Because the people who market the japaneese 50 here in the US have inflated the rating. Run what has had good feedback from other modelers and racers, and do not rely on marketing in advertisements.
