I'm thinking about a first sea plane. I have an OS 70 Surpass. Did that engine work well for you? I'll either buy the Mariner II by Lanier or the Neptune. Your thoughts?

I cracked open the box to my new Neptune. Very impressed! I'm was contemplating using an OS .70 fourstroke but after reading various comments about the pylon not be tall enough/strong enough I wasn't sure. Well I must say, the pylon is actually very sturdy. Its's fully laminated hardwood (not a built up box type of pylon). It's also very tall. I slid it all the way into the fuselage and I measured roughly 7.5 inches from the middle of the engine mount holes to the fuselage, plenty of room for up to a 14" prop...crazy. Looks like the .70 and 13x6 prop are going to fit the bill perfect.

I got about 10 flights on mine now. I have to say the .46ax I am using is more than enough, it has a lot of speed and is vertical clime is great! I belive I am a bit tail heavy and will check the cg again. It likes to balloon up when the trottel is cut back to land it dose settle after a few seconds. Fun plane though

I have just completed my Seamaster and it is a terrific looking plane. I am excited about flying it on Lake Lanier. Everything I have read on the forum reinforces my choice for this plane. Everything I have read here leads me to believe they are easy to land and can do aerobatics, which would be cool at the lake. Any advice anyone who has actually flown one would be helpful so that I do not crash on my first flight. I am going to check it out on land first and make sure all is working well and adjusted. THe kit had two left rear landing gear so I am waiting on a replacement for one of them. They don't seem to be interchangeable.

One question. The tail assembly seems to be very weak. Mind sort of shakes with any pressure. I am concerned that if I do any kind of aerobatics, it will come off. Has anyone done in mods to reinforce the tail.

Thanks for you help.

I have a 46ax in my Neptune with a 10x6 APC prop and it has plenty of power for this plane. I don't think it would be worth spending the extra $ on the 55ax.
