Default AVIA B-35 in 1/6 scale and other AVIA Fighters

Hi Guys
I have now been collecting information on the Czech, 1930's fighter, the Avia B-35. I have started about 2 weeks ago to draw up building plans in Turbo Cad. The nice part is that if I change mi mind about the scale, I can just print the drawing any size I want. The plans are almost finished. I think by the end of next week they will be.
I will post a picture of the critter tomorrow evening, for all of those who are curious.
The reason I like this bird, is because it is a very modern looking WW2 fighter with a fixed landing gear. I plan on selling the plans and accessories to interested modelers. I plan on making a mold for a glass cowling and wheel pants.
The span for this project is 71.2", and power will be a RCV-90, turning a 20" prop. One of my friends has already expressed interest in the airplane in 1/4 scale 107". This is a little too big for me, but never the less an interesting prospect.
Please give any input you may have for this project.

Default AVIA B-35 in 1/6 scale and other AVIA Fighters

Hello Chad
The picture you posted is the Avia B-35.2 the second prototype. The difference being, that the back fuselage on the .2 is fabric covered and on the .1 is sheeted with "armored ply". Also the .2 has a narrowed down canopy and turtle deck just like on the Hurricane. Where as the .1 has a wide canopy like the early spitfire prototype. Even though the .1 and the .2 have almost the same wing, the .2 has narrower ailerons. The .1 also came in a 3 color camouflage on top and had a variation on different Czech markings, where as the .2 had the markings in your picture and than they were changed to the Hun markings. The .3 went to the straight leading edge wing and narrower ailerons yet. The .4 than became the B-135 and was almost identical to the .3, but had narrower flaps, ailerons, and had a smaller opening to the radiator in front. All of the straight leading edge wings were equipped with retractable landing gear. The Avia B-135 actually had a combat life over Ployesty, shooting down B-24s for the Bulgarian Air force.
As soon as I am finished with the B-35.1 plans I am going to start on a set of accurate B-534 Building plans, showing both the series III, IV and V variants. I will also be doing the Ba-33L since I have already started building one a year ago, and have the fuse half finished.
I will keep you informed on my progress. There is also some other guy on this web sight from California interested in the Avia B-534, I have noticed.

Thanks Otto! I couldn't find a good pic of the .1 on the net so I posted what I could find. Can't wait to see the plans!

Here is how far I am on the plans so far. This represents about a week of work.
This is a CAD drawing, so the individual sections can be maneuvered to different pages and scales.

I'm drooling Otto. How much money should I be setting aside for a copy of my very own? Drop me a note off the board and we can talk laser cutting if you are interested.

All I have left to do is to finish the bulkheads and the aft wing spar and I am finished with the basic building plan. I will than draw up the strong box building procedure and I should be finished by Monday Chad. I can provide you with the DXF file for laser cutting, but that sounds too much like a dream which I wont want to wake up from for me.
I will start to do the AVIA BH-33L as soon as I am finished with this one. I have had the project sitting now for over a year and would like to finish it. As soon as I am at a decently complete stage I will post the plan for that.

By the way, what do you think of my first attempt a drawing plans, and my first attempt at using a CAD program of any kind?

Here is the updated B-35.1 so far.

Nice to e-meet you Lee and thanks for the kind words. Chuck is a top notch guy.

Otto, the plans look fantastic. To my benefit I am able to use the laser cutter at work for personal projects so maybe we can work out a deal for some parts for the Avia. Let me know what you think, Chad.

That's exactly what his business partner said to me also!

Otto, here's my feeble attempt at some CAD plans for a 72 inch Zero. I don't get a chance to work on them much so it will be a while before they are finished. I'm using AutoCAD R14 and the airfoils were done in CompuFoil.

Chad and Lee
The Zero plans look good. It looks like you are a 1/6 scale flier like I am, looking at the span of the Zero.
Here some dimensions of the Avia B-35.1 in different scales.

1/12 =35 5/8"
1/8 =53 3/8"
1/7 =61"
1/6 =71 3/16"
1/5 =85 7/16"

A buddy of mine wants a set in 1/4 scale, 106 3/4" which I think is little extreme. But Vladimir likes them big.

Hay Chad, I don't know if you have been paying attention, but I am the Tech rep for RCV Engines LTD. here in the US. I am also the RCV Flying Team coordinator here in the US. I am looking for scale fliers all over the country. All people who are accepted for the team get a RCV 90-SP out of the deal. I am looking for people in the South West and other parts of the country. Call me at (630)321-0580 and I will fill you in. You look like the flier that would be just the recruit. If you know any one els who flys scale airplanes in the 70-80" range let them know also.
We are flying the 4Pi (Charley Bower) Douglas Skyraiders. This is an 80" ARC kit and the engine/ Airplane combination has been tested and proved by Nick Ziroli, and will be written up in the next issue of Flying Models Mag. The kit is quite nice but has a lousy canopy and cowling, which I am making molds for and redoing, to make more scale. Let me know.

Hello OTTO,

I remeber Chuck and I met you at Wheeler, IN. this summer in the 100 degree weather. We were flying the Yellow P-47's. Kinda nice to put a name with a face. I will be in touch with you on an engine or two this summer. Are you planning to go to Wheeler again this year?

Thanks

Hello Lee
Yes, that is an event that I want to make every year from now on. By the way, when I was listening to the marine advisory channel on the way home I think they posted the temp at somewhere around 105f or something like that. I am surprised that the engines performed at all that day. I have been doing very well with the engines this year. I hope that I can attribute this fact to providing good customer support.

thank You

Hay, I just heard from my partner in Prague that there will be a new book coming out on the B-35, in the Czech Republic soon. I told him to send me 4 copies as soon as they come out. He will not know the price yet, but I will let you know as soon as I know something.

Disaster !!!!!!!!!!!
After putting about 200 hours in between 4 different drawings, the computer crashed. The good news is that I shelled out the bucks to have the data recovered, and I only lost the time which the computer was down. This means about one more week for the finished product. In the mean time here is a picture of a B-534 series IV, which was one of the drawings I almost lost.

Dobry Rano Petre
Zavolejte My prosim. Poslal sem vam eMail. (630)321-0580

Yes Peter I will be selling these plans when they are finished, in any scale you want. I am doing them in cad and in full scale (1"=1") so I will shrink them to any scale. The reason I am drawing them in full scale is because all the prints available and data available is in full scale. You may be interested in the HPM magazine which I distribute. We print it in Prague and it is in Czech. so you wont require the translations.

Default Book on the Avia B-35/135

It looks like the book on the Avia B-35 will be finished printing in about 2-3 weeks I should have some by the end of March. Call or email me if you are interested.
The plans on the B-35 are going well, I am trying to make them as detailed as I can. I am trying not to leave anything out. I just hate when I buy a set of plans and half of the project is left up to my imagination.
