Basically, I want to get into R/C helicopters, both these options seem to be the cheapest. I read about the quality issues of Walkera and dont mind tinkering with it to set it up correctly before flying. So my choice now is the Walkera 22E or Walkera 36... I can get the 22E for around $80 USD and the 36 for $160. Thanks for any suggestions

EDIT: BTW> I will be buying the ExceedRC version of these helis, the Eagle 50 or the Raptor G2 basically the same as the Walkeras

Neither! I would recommend the W#4 for the first RC helicopter.

BTW, where can I get the 22E for around $80 USD shipped? I'd like to get one for spare.

The #4 would be better suited to a beginner because it is easy and cheap to repair, but If you were choosing strictly between the 22E and 36, I would go with the 36. The 36 has a belt drive tail and separate gyro, both of which are a big improvement over the 22E. I've had my 36 for around a month now and it works very well...the only problem I've had was with the stock brushless motor getting too hot and breaking the shaft. If you go with the 36, I would get the one with a brushed motor and immediately replace it with a nice brushless setup...like a Castle Creations ESC and one of the Align motors. The cost of the heli + the brushless upgrade would set you back around $275. If that's too much, the 22E would be a good option too.

Best beginner helicopter is either the walkera #5 or Esky Lama 2, assuming you have never flown heli before.

the Esky lama and Walkera 5 are good started helis... if you want to fly high the easy way.. going collective is the hard way to enter this hobby... and FP will be better if you want to learn the basics....

I have 3 Walkeras-the #36, the 22e and the Dragonfly 4. Of the three, the Dragonfly 4 fixed pitch has been the most durable-the 22e broke after my first crash. The 4 has taken several small crashes, but nothing broken so far and I've actually gotten it up in the air within a day or two and I've learned plenty about balancing the copter in the air. Still can't do that with the 22e but I'm working on it. The 36 is more well made than the 22e (IMHO) and seems more stable, but I would agree that dual blade (I have flown a dual blade too before the electronics blew up and it was pretty easy to hover-not a Walkera) or fixed pitch helicopter like the Dragonfly is better to start out with. Good luck.

I have a Futuba 6DA w/ 4 S3004 BB servos, could I use those in a heli, possibly a Walkera 36? and a 6 Channel Futuba receiver

DF4 is a nice helicopter to start out too but I got frustrated when the tail motor burns out every few flights.

I went through one right away too. I used the advice of others here and put a heatsink on the 2nd little devil-has been fine since. Also on the main motor. Definitely will change to a better tail motor ASAP. Little suckers spin up awfully fast. First one snapped like a firecracker, and that's with the stock NIMH. I think both the #4 and 22e are the same tail motors. Probably not a bad idea to solder a resistor in the Walkera 4 tailmotor like the 22e, but I'm not sure if its necessary with a heatsink. See ya later.

Encore,

The Eagle 50 flies very well. Make sure that you add heat sinks to the main and tail motors. Also, the head parts (see-saw and blade grips) are fairly fragile so order spares in advance (tail motors also).

For beginners, go for the bettery quality esky rc helicopters. Esky Lama 2 is the good one to start (or Blade CX)
