Tom.

Do you have any wheels that fit the spats a touch better than the du-bro 3.5" that I have at the moment

What is a spat?

Tom, you're rightr on the nail there... same type of battery, not the same battery. I have a DP Extra, using the same servos as I will be fitting into the WH Extra, which weighs 14.5lbs, powered by Laser 240v twin. I am using a 2400 battery in this one too, and will fly 4 x 15 minute flights with no trouble. Not sure how many more flights it would manage without being recharged, but it's not an issue as far as topping it up goes.

As for picking up my Extra today... I didn't! I ended up leaving it at Probuild for them to build it for me. I am much more confident that they will do a top job without wrecking it, than me!

Mike.

The single 2400 2 cell li-on will last longer than a day of flying but do make sure that you wont be pulling more amps than the battery will handle, and also make sure that there isn't any binding in the system that will draw more juice than necessary.

I'm going to start running 2100 mah li-po 2 cell to save 4 ozs; it has a large amount of amps it can push. I do run 2 switches and 2 regs for switch redundancy. I just cant trust any one switch. I have had a fail safe and non failsafe switch fail on me. thanx to the dual switch setup i lost neither plane.

Mike... Good point in ref to the amps pull. Will check to find out the max discharge rating of the battery... thanks.

Well you might want to verify what kind of power your regulators will handle as well as max continous discharge rate on the batteries. I went to a bit bigger Mah battery in order to get the higher continuous discharge rate.

Due to my having found a switch going bad just in time, meaning before flying on the 50cc size plane I'm replacing with the new rabbit, I'm going to be using two Li-Ion two cell 2150's. Two regulators and separate switches with a BatShare for complete redunancy, that should power all those big digital servos with ease. I know... It's overkill but when there's a couple of grand involved in the model and this setup only weighs about 2 oz. more than the old single battery, I think it's well worth it...

I also use the same type two cell battery on the ignition without a regulator as the ignition module on my new ZDZ, like the new 3W stuff, does not need a regulator to run lithium batteries.

When you run dual batteries, regulators and switches do you just plug both into the receiver and then does the flight pack draw from both batteries simultaneously.

Another question, what is the idle speed of a DA-50, 23 x 8 NX prop

You can do it that way, however there is a very neat little gem of a gizmo called a Power Expander that is a better option. http://www.smart-fly.com/Products/Expander/expander.htm
If I run dual battery, switch, regulator I will use this to get all the advantage out of the setup. However on my 28% WH Extra I decided to use a single battery, switch, and regulator to keep things simple and cost low. It has worked EXTREMELY well for me.

I will be using the EMCOTEC dpsi rv mini 5 and two 2000mah lipo's in my extra. It has taken a while to get the cash together for it, and, for the sake of only a few ounces and an extra £150 ($300) I will have more than just batt and switch redundancy.
I fly in close proximity to military helicopters and this system gives me a greater piece of mind.

Compact design, footprint is 2.6” x 3.5”
Filtered and regulated 5.0V power to the receiver
LED power indicators for input and receiver power
Fully buffered outputs on all channels
Full filtration of all signals in and out of the unit
High-current Deans UltraPlug Power input connectors

Dual Regulator
Small: 2-3/4 x 2-1/4 inches
Lightweight: 2.0 oz
7.5 amps with 8.4 volts in and 6.0 volts out.

Smart Fly also sells a nice little thing called the Batt Share... that is what I use then both batteries will drain at the same rate.

Setup
2 Fromeco 2400Lion
2 Fromeco Regulators
1 batt share

This setup has been flawless for me, on two different planes. On a 30% plane I think a power box is a bit over kill, but if you have money to spare why not.

The smart-fly gear looks good, the only trouble is, getting hold of it here in blighty.

I am having great difficulty setting the pull-pull for the rudder. The tiller bar is set to 3" between hole centers at the rudder end with a PA straight 3" between centers carbon servo arm. The problem is where the cables exit from the rear of the fuselage. When you try to get anymore than 23 deg the cables bind with the side of the fuselage and stall the servo. How is this problem overcome with youre extras. I am trying for the recommended 40 deg throw for 3d but am getting no where near it without making the slots in the fuz much longer. I have tried crossing the cables but this makes it worse.

PLEASE CAN YOU HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always elongate the exit holes and take a dremmel with a sanding drum and a flex shaft down the fuse and sand away clearances on the fuse former.

CY has already given you the answer to this and it's the Smart-Fly BatShare. It's got a diode setup to prevent any problems with the possible failure of one of the batteries/circuits being able to take down the other since both power leads plug into the rx buss, without the diode that could happen. It's not a common failure by any means but it's kind of nice to have it IMHO. The other thing is that it will balance the current draw from the two packs. Without that feature dual battery systems will usually draw down one pack more than the other.

While it is not common to see dual battery systems in this size model for reasons noted by others, my discovery of the switch going bad on my current 50cc size model is what prompted me to go dual with this Bunnie. There are those who do not think dual setups are necessary for anything below 35% size models and that's probably true, but my 33% Edge (another brand) has dual batteries and when I started looking at weights for dual batteries on this model there wasn't much of a weight penalty, just a higher price tag for electrical power. In this case with the dual Li-Ions I'm looking at about $130.00 (Battery, regulator, BatShare, switch) extra for the setup and as I said, with a couple of grand in the model that doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

Oh, for the poster who is across the "Pond", Smart-Fly is available for you too. If they don't have a dealer somewhere near you (IIRC they do have some outside the USA) they will ship internationally...
