BTW i didnt mention it before but i also intend on using the hanger9 8-32 linkage sets if that helps for the measurments on the linkage lengths. The longest hanger9 do is 5 inch. Not sure if this is enough for the elevators

Cheers

kingsley

i used them H9 links on the ele also so i know there is a correct size. How i determine if they will work is i assemble the ele and control horn and servo arms them measure roughly what size it nees to be then i go to the trobuilt web site were it states how long the pro links are with ball links and see if there is one in the size i need heres the link.

a 5" pro link is good for 5 3/4" to 6 3/8" its 1/3 the way down the page

Hey scooter

Ill be keen to hear your flight report as this is the exact setup im putting on mine minus the power box.

Was a little supprised at your weight i was sort of aiming at the mid-high 15's. But im sure it will fly awsome. Be sure to post anything you discovered along the way. I havent started building mine yet so will be keen to learn from othrs mistakes!

Cheers

Kingsley

When my travelling calms down ill start building!

Bird-of-Prey,

You can get below 16 pretty easy. My Extra is built with mostly stock parts from Tom's hardware kit except as follows.
DA 50 on Pitts muffler with tubes cut off to fit the cowl. (Stock DA muffler is lighter by a bit)
4" Esprit fiberglass spinner-very light weight and you can paint to match. This is a huge weight savings over a True turn.
Carbon wing and elevator tubes.
Titanium tail wheel
TNT carbon gear with PSP titanium axles with Kavan light wheels
No Wheel pants.
Single 2800 LiIon on receiver and ignition with reg's and standard switches.
5955 on rudder, 5985's everywhere else except throttle -- standard digitial, can't remember which one. NO choke servo.
No Pilot figure.

With all of these changes my weight is somewhere between 15 1/2 to 15 3/4 lbs.

Hope that helps.

I guess it depends on what airplane you're putting it in but on my Extra I had 3" standoffs that came with the engine and had to make some 1/4" thick plastic spacers to go behind the standoffs to get the motor out the right distance. A piece of 1/4 thick cutting board works fine and cut the spacers with a 3/4: hole saw in your drill. It cuts them a good size and makes a perfect hole in the center for the mounting bolts.

thanks for the info
I am looking into getting the 84" extra 300
and I usually do a lot of reading up on a plane and
engine before I buy anything.

You will love the Extra. Mine flies like a dream and I couldn't ask any more of it than it already gives. Until yesterday it was my favorite plane. Now it has been downgraded to Number 2 on the favorites list.

I purchased a Carden 35% Extra with DA 100 in it. Some kinda sweet airplane.

It appears that the wing-tube is the same diameter but about 2" longer than the first versions.. Or atleast the first version Edge wing-tube is about 2" shorter than that of the New Extra.

I think the new wing tube is longer to make up the difference of the wider fuselage of the new plane. Is anyone using the shorter (older) tube on their new model? If the tube stays centered, do you think it'll be ok to use it?I have a cabon fiber tube for my old W.H. that I'd like to use in my new W.H.

The new planes with the built-up wings should be less sensitive to using a slightly shorter tube since the socket is supported every few inches by a rib, however I do not officially endorse using a shorter tube and I have not tested the plane with anything other than the tube that came with the plane.

In other words it will probably work but if it doesn't you're on your own.

Hi All,

The wind finally stopped, the sun came out and the California weather allowed me to maiden the 300 today. All I can say is what a sweet flying machine. It floats thru the air. I added a few clicks of right alieron trim and that's all that was needed. WHen attempting to land this machine it wants to float. I pulled the power to idle and it is very docile when landing.

I'm still new to gassers and this model flies so much different then the YAK. It is very axial in the rolls. The DA 50 provides more then enough power for this machine.

I checked the ground handling with the mod I did to the tail wheel (see post 410) and the handling is extremely positive. The machine taxied down the center line and I didn't have to put any inputs into the rudder to keep it tracking straight.

Tom did a fantastic job with this model

Chuck
