Does anyone know the size of the wing holders (Little wooden pegs) im looking at reinforcing the holes in the FUZ with an inch long piece of CF tub but need to know what size will fit.

Ive noticed the wing already has 2-3 mm of play in them around these plugs. And it hasnt even flown yet! They are going to get bigger because of the movement already there.

Is this unique to my model or is this a generic type issue. How has everyone else dealt with it?

I should have measured them before i left this morning but you know!

That has never been reported before. Why not just wrap a little tape around the dowel to tighten it up?

Actually there are two dowels in each wing, as long as one of them is a good fit that's all that is required.

i never thought of putting tape on good call . Much easier then inserting carbon rods.

I can physically move the wing 1 - 2 mm so im guessing both must be a little loose. not an issue just like to get on top of these things before it starts getting worst.

Next issue ......The hidden bolts for the cowl are fantastic i just can figure out how to get the bottom bolts on without making big holes in the cowl in front of them. Kinda defetes the purpose of hiding the bolts though. It wasnt going to be a problem until i decided to go the can and now i dont have to cut holes anywhere near the point of the bolts.

This is my first experience installing a can and all seems to be going well. Except trying to find a very small bolt to fit behind the header on the tight side. AND looks like i have to cut down an alan key to move it when its in! I thought they would provide the bolts at least with the kit i bought.

The plane is looking supurb and cannot wait for this weekend to finally get her in the sky..and have some damn FUN!

cheers

Thx Tom for a wonderful creation

I don't use the bottom 2 cowl bolts. I've flown dozens of flights with no problems. I'm guessing hardly none use the bottom bolts.

As far as the header bolts; I usually just cut the threaded portion off a bolt and install it into the engine threads as a stud. That way, you'll never ever strip the threads out of the engine from repeated tightenings of the header. This will allow you more room for a nut, instead of the bolt. Hope this helps.

You don't use the bottom bolts, they are justthere for the people wo needto carve up the cowl and ruin the cowl ring.

The lower lip of the cowl ring slips under the two plywood "hooks", then slide the cowl upwards and put the retainer screws in.

It's even cooler than you thought.

It shouldn't be a problem. I install the studs in my engines finger tight.

If the studs get stuck just use a Visegrip and unscrew them, then install new ones for the next go-round.

ive been fling the bird for three days peobably 11 flights.

Today i landed with a less than perfect landing but still not wha id consder hard. one side of the landing gear mount pulled right our of the fuz...BUgger!

on closer insepction it looks like the bolts have pulled straigh through wood holding them. It also took the section out between the two ribs, it cut it clean across in line with the two vertical cuts allow for the ribs.

it shouldnt be so hard to fix just a pitty i have to do it after only 10 flights id recomend anyone else fibre the section up early in the build.

what have other people done to reinforce this section? It realy wasnt a bad landing but a tad of flair wouldnt have gone astray. The other guys at the club were shocked it did that.

Not all bad though after three days it was bring my skills to a new level having such a beautiful plane to swing around the sky. I was having far too much fun today!

Awsome plane

I know what ill be doing this week after work!

cheers

Sorry to hear of the damage..... When I assembled my Extra I did nothing but bolt in the gear, I have probably 35-40 flights on the bird and not a sign of any issues with the gear plate at all.
You mentioned that it pulled the mounting hardware through the wood? My Extra has aluminum support brackets that the gear harware goes through, does yours??
Some PICs of the damage and gear block might help explain some????

ill try and get some pics. but the plate stayed on with the LG and the bolts tore through the wood they are bolted too. looking closer again the wood between the two bolt holes broke away from the bolt up...

I have tons of landings on a rough cow pasture field, no problems with the gear here.

That does seem strange. With the nice springy gear on the Extra, it seems like it would be almost impossible to pull the gear out on arough landing.

I think the gear is perfect on the new Extra. The plane must have hit at a very steep angle.
