Greg, I noticed something also. Where did you obtain the overflow fitting you installed in the tank top? I like that a lot and would use it on all my tanks if I can find the fittings.

At some point in my infinite wisdom(NOT) I got confused and put the loop in my fuel line and was feeling real good about it all when a friend asked me about it. He said, "Isn't that loop supposed to be in the vent line?" With a stupid sheepish grin on my face I responded that in fact it is supposed to be in the vent line but due to a minor cranial embolism I put it in the fuel line. You know, the engine runs better now that I have taken the loop out of the fuel line.

Jim it is a Sulivan aluminum fuel tank nipple S476 http://www.sullivanproducts.com/FuelSysComponentsMainFrame.htm, I really like them for vents. I took (took Dans advice) out one of the loops in the vent line and shortened it.
Cranial Embolism, wish that was all I had, LoL, I usually end up with a Cranial to Rectal inversion LoL.

Well today was the day, I finally got a few hours this afternoon to go out and do a radio check and get a maiden flight in, well I thought anyway LoL. Got to the field and forgot my transmitter LoL, lovely wife brought it out (only about 4 miles away).
Triple checked everything and it was time to quit drooling and fly!!!! Did a static radio range check all was perfect, so do fire up the beast for the firs time and then do a running range check then to fly!!!
Well she never would hit a lick!! Wouldn't draw fuel, so we slightly pressurized the fuel tank by squeezing the tank and occluding the vent line. Fuel to the carb, flip some more, still no life. Checked spark, have great spark, squirt a bit of fuel into the carb, she fires and runs backwards for about 3.7 seconds. Thought kewl maybe now she will prime and fire, I think my right arm is now about 14 feet long!!!! Still no cooperation, by this time it is dark so I loaded and will try again later.
Think I will pull carb off to see if the phenolic spacer and such is oriented correctly, maybe blocking a orifice or such. Not sure why fuel is not being pumped but doesn't seem the pump is working. MVVS 45cc pulled straight from the box.

Did you connect the pressure line from the crankcase to the correct nipple on the carb? It sounds like not.

shaun didn't you have a similar problem with your DA?

also sometimes the diaframs can harden when an engine sits. Flood the engine on purpose. Open the throttle full with ignition off and the carb choked. Flip it 20 or more times then remove the plugs to clear the flooding. This should really wet the diaframs and make them pump better. Part of the break in process is getting the diaframs conditioned. I replaced my diaframs on my BME 50 after 200 flights and it took 10 or so flights to get it to hold a needle setting.
My bME 110/ Extra 260 has flown 326 flights I have never touched the needles since break-in and only had to replace the plugs once around 250 flights.

Got my maiden in just before the sun went down the other day. My setup is DA-50 with 22X8 prop, tru turn 4" spinner, Fromeco 2400 for Ignition and 2 2400 for receiver, 5955 for rudder, 5645 for others. I had to mount my two receiver batts on a tray in the turtle deck just behind the canopy. Everything was pretty uneventful. Had to add about 2 clicks of down and two of right. Rolls were right on, knife edge showed more roll out to upright than it did any pull. To mix it out should be minimal. I did get a little bit of tip stall to the left but that could be a balance issue. My tank is not 100% centered with the way that I mounted my throttle servo so I think I just need to add a little counter weight on the opposite tip and should be good to go. Elevator was very responsive, I need to dial in a bit more expo. Took it into a hover high and did not have to do a lot of input, it should be real stable. I think that my CG is about as neutral as it can get. I might actually need to move one of the batts forward a bit or program a landing mode to dial in a bit of down otherwise I think it could flare pretty easy if there was any kind of breeze.

All in all pretty good. I like the way that it flies better than my WH edge.

How does she fly compared to the Edge?

from what I can tell, the rolls are a lot more axial with the extra. Also, the extra does not seem to fall off near as much in a slow roll requiring less input to be smooth. My Extra has better ground handling than my Edge did, that could just be me. I feel that the vertical is better with the extra, I am using the same motor, pulled it from the edge before I sold it. The one hover that I did try seemed to be really easy to get it to lock in, it was getting dark so I will get more info the next time out. The stall on the edge was 100% straight forward and my extra fell to the left alittle. I think that is because my tank is a little offset. I do wish that you could mount the tank under the wingtube like on the edge, it would affect it less as you burn off fuel. I like the stance and the way the extra presents itself better too. It seems like a bigger plane.

This hobby is loads of fun! But it can be stressful at times.
I eliminataded most of my stress by doing the following two things:

1. Threw away my Tachometer
2. Threw away my scale.

Shaun's plane flies awsome, I took it through the basic and Sportsman sequences. It flies lighter than my Extra Special with(CF gear CF wing tube CF Tail Tube and CF tailgear) and his is built stock!

No Greg, I haven't had a chance to weigh it on a different scale. I'll will saythis though, No matter what it does weigh, it flys very light!!. All and all I'm very happy with the plane. It's my favorite plane so far. I thought about going all out and getting Carbon fiber stuff for the plane. But right now the DA50 pulls verticals with great authority. I really don't think the plane needs to be lightened any more than it is when built stock.
Instead of spending the $$$ on carbon fiber stuff, I have decided to put the $$$ towards a 40%.

Oh I agree the #'s really dont matter, its how it performs, just interested in knowing. I guess as a gauge for mine, for which I hope to maiden Thursday (work schedule prohibits until then).

Dan,

That's great!! Finally to hear the right attitude about flight performance! What it does is more important than what it weighs or tachs out

A question on the Elevator halves, during my setup I am able to get 38-40° just before they hit the pull pull cables. What limitations will there be in not trimming the elevator corners???
