I posted this in the Radio / Servo forum but had only one response. I have a 35% 260 on the brown truck as I post this and want some opinions. I fly JR equipment and planned on putting 8611A servos on everything but the throttle but I am open to some input. Hitec digital servos are a very remote possibility but would like to hear from you Hitec fans. All my previous 35% planes have all had all JR equipment and I ran 8411s on everything.

Several years ago I swore off all Hitec products particularly their digital servos. Let’s just say I had some problems with full 3D throw servo movement without any stick input and leave it at that. Are they any better now? Do the still have centering problems? Are they allegedly crashing planes due to their full deflection lock-up problems? Basically are they still the same old crap or have they made major improvements. I am about to set up another 100 cc plane and don't want any unwanted surprises. If not Hitec then I will put in my faithful 8611s and not worry about it.

The 5955 (not 5995) is just about the best, most precision, highest torque servo you can get and centers far better than an 8611. No servo with the amount of gear slop that the 8611 has could possibly center as well. I have never had a hitec fail me except once about 7 years ago but it had been involved in a crash prior.
I would recommend 4 5945's for the ailerons or 8611's (when you have two of them on the same surface the gear slop is harder to feel), two 5955's for the elevators and one or two 5955's for the rudder. You won't be sorry if you go all Hitec and your wallet will thank you! Still, I won't be a hater if you go JR - differn't strokes, you know...

If I put in Hitec servos in it will be 5955 or 5965 all around except the throttle. It looks like the only difference between the two is the gear material. The 5955 is using titanium and the 5965 using some other metal. I'm not sure how good titanium is for gear use. We machine a good deal of titanium at work and that stuff can be a nightmare. It tends to gall very easy. As a rule titanium moves a lot but bends very little and the weight savings in servos would be negligible. Are the titanium gears anodized or coated? What is the metal used in the 5965s. As far as price goes they are the same as JR 8611A at $114.95 so the cost argument is moot.

If you choose the 5955's, you will not be disappointed. I have flown 5955's at various national-level competitions for the last year and a half (IMAC Nats, Tucson Shootout, XFC) with good results. I have 1500 flights on various versions of the 5955 servo and I have had no problems. There is nominal gear slop after 1000 flights.

I have been running Hitec digitals in all of my planes for a while now and really like them. All of Aero-Works also uses them and have found them to suite our purpose very well. I am running 5945's all around except for a single 5955 on the rudder with great results. Don't get me wrong though the JR's are good to and I would not hesitate to use them, It all comes down to what you feel comfortable with. Like you said there is very little if any price difference so I would go with what you trust be it JR or Hitec.

I run the 8611's all around and I don't have gear slop problems.....but I also don't try to get 60degrees of deflection and overdrive the servos like most 3-D flyers feel you need. You can accomplish the same with only 30degrees or so of throw.

Order your servos through Troy built models or donald's hobby shop and if you order 4 or more 8611 they are only like $95 per servo. But you have to call to ask for special pricing.

Go to Gene's site http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/index.html and read what he has to say about the hitec and jr. On site go to giant scale assecories, then electrical then servos and scroll down. Hope this helps.
