Well I am starting to play with pinion gears on my Losi xxx-s RTR car. I have upgraded to a P2K2 motor and have moved up to a 28t pinion gear on stock internal gearing. Someone told me that I need to be very carefull bumping up my pinion gear.(don't want to burn up my motor). Well I have been trying to find info on the net about this and I have found a few rollout charts and even a neat little gearing program. but none of these things tell me what is too high of gearing.

Here is my info on the car right now. internal gearing is 1.83, my tire size right now is about 2.35" and I am not running a 28t pinion with a 88t spur gear, with a P2K2 motor. I run this car on ozite road course track.

Here is my thinking on this.. My pinion/gear ratio is 3.14. factor in my internal ratio for my FINAL ratio means I have a 5.751 FINAL ratio. ok now using my 2.35 tire size with my little program I get a 1.284 ROLLOUT. (circ / FINAL). Is this too high of a rollout.. how do I know if I can go higher safely.

I am just trying to maximize my car. thanks for any help you guys can give me on this.

the best way to do it is listen to the motor on the strait. It should wind out at 3/4 or the end of the strait. 28 sounds right or close. I use to run 64 pitch. put the biggest spur in there that they offer. That seems to get the car out of the hole a little better. Just make sure you change the pinion to match.
hope this helps
