First off, if you just put the plug against the cylinder head and turn the engine over, you won't see a visible spark. That's because you usually can't turn the engine over fast enough to see it. We use a small spark-detector box that we put between the spark plug lead and the case. It has two probes you can adjust inside a small, dark chamber. This allows you to see the spark. You need to turn the engine over faster.

A second reason the engine won't start may be that it's just to dry. Open both high-speed and low-speed needles about 1/4 turn. Choke the engine (with ignition OFF) until it starts to 'spit' fuel from the air intake. Open the choke, turn the engine over a few times by flipping the prop (IGNITION OFF!!!). Turn on the ignition and then spin it over. It should fire and run.
