Status: offline 		Ran it with 24x10 Xoar prop today.It ran fine but today is cloudy and my cheapo tachometers don't work well unless the sun is shining. I could get "flashes" in the low 5,000 range, but couldn't get a steady reading. Hopefully we'll get a few more sunny days before we get into the perma-rain season here in the Seattle area. I can start it cold now with 2-3 flips so that's all good.

Status: offline 		Runs good, I retarded the ignition to 25degrees, it makes starting easier and I am not looking for max power now. I took it off the test stand and put it in the DVII. I will have to rearrange a few things but it should be good to go soon.

Prop is 24x10 that I cut down to 23x10 and tried to stain it so it would look better than just a stock prop. It looks darker without the flash.

I finally got around to firing up the second Stihl today and it started running rather quickly,and runs well.On this one I didn't remove the compression relief mech.(for starting) on the cam, but so far it doesn't seem to make a difference. However it started raining before I could play with it too much.

If we have OK weather this weekend I am going to fly the DVII with the first Stihl installed and hopefully we'll have video,or at least pictures.

Status: offline 		Son of a gun.I took out Stihl #2 to run today and it had almost no compression. After some head-scratching and checking various scenarios, I am pretty sure the the exhaust valve is leaking. Now I have to take the bloody thing apart to find out why. I hope it isn't burnt or something worse.

Status: offline 		Well that wasn't so bad. I took the engine apart and sure enough there was a chunk of carbon stuck on the exhaust valve. I took the valve out, cleaned it up,and then thought "why not lap it?". Automotive lapping compound seemed too coarse for an engine of this size so I used rubbing compound,thinned down into a slurry (don't ask what I used to thin it with). The tricky part is that the Sthil has a one-piece cylinder (like Saito) so I put a pencil into the chuck of my electric hand drill and used the eraser end of the pencil pressed against the valve bottom to spin the valve around in its seat .Since I had the engine apart I did the intake valve as well. I put it back together and sure enough the compression is back and then some!!
My years as an amateur Alfa Romeo (1971 Spider) mechanic are finally paying off!

Status: offline 		I have lapped a lot of valves this way.

As long as you end up with a shinny ring all the way around the valve then it's good.

On car engined I simply chucked up the valve stem and pulled the seat and the face together.

I just got back from a 2 week vacation and hope to start mine soon.

It would have been better (and easier ) to pull the valve stem from the top side but there just isn't enough valve stem sticking out to do that,at least with the drills I have.

What servo did you use, MG995 and MG945? And they went wrong, you had no problem with them? And tempted me because they are cheap. Very interesting conversion, I do hope I get a big engine 50-60cc 4 stroke.

Status: offline 		Well, it took a long time but the DVII with the Stihl 65 flew this last weekend. What a hoot! It is probably overpowered as I could get a high- speed cruise at half throttle or less. The sound was to die for! After I landed people were coming up and asking me what the heck I had in there.

the XOAR 24x10 cut down to 23x10. Probably over-propped for max power but I was sure I didn't need max power. I feel the best prop for this engine is a 22x10, if you want the most power/thrust.
